Yes, thank you very much! I didn't see a leaders file, although much of that is in the models/units files. I guess I already made excel files with much of this info in it for my project, but this definitely helps. If we want to add/change unit or model names, it looks like we could add them to the database in the appropriate spots and you/the development team can compile the game files from them?

Great to see this, thanks a lot.

For units/models, it seems like FamilyType might make sure names don't overlap between similar but different units. 10lb NC artillery are in the $famLightArty|1 but should be in $famMedArty|1 if it is to match other 10lbers.

Post these remarks in Help Improve CW2, we can gather them all when the next patch will be near. :)

I'm curious how exactly we should use the DB files. It seems like an excel version of the information in the game folders already. Will a tool be created to allow for creation of game files from a DB file we've modified?

Csv splitter is the tool to create game files out of excel files. Just enter proposed suggestion into excel files, and read few tutorial posts in the modding section of the forum that explain how to use csv splitter tool.

After a mod is made, if it is good enough, the devs may consider integrating it into official game files.

Welcome to modding, and

Good luck :)

Wow, thank you very much! There is a nice introduction I used as you recommend (http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?34995-A-brief-introduction-to-modding-units).

I wanted to try the splitter utility, so I unzipped the Database, saved the model DB file, and saved it as a CSV. I clicked mdl then clicked convert. Instead of success, I get an error, "Exception in line 0,..." followed by info from the file. Here is a screen shot:

It worked fine for an Events DB file, but not for the Model DB or Unit DB file. Any ideas what is wrong?

I think I get it, it comes from the habit of the team to not fully flesh out some comments columns, the ones with ยง in their header. Remove them entirely with Excel before doing an export in CSV, it should work...

Hmm, still no luck for me. Does it work for anyone else? The error message for the units database isn't cut off, so I'm attaching it.

I tried to export original file and it worked with no problems. Maybe your changes caused some errors. Try to use original file posted by Pocus, and change only 1 line in it. That is how you'll know you are doing it right.

Ok, I have it now. Excel was exporting as comma delimited (you can see the commas in the error screen I posted). CSV splitter needs semicolon delimited.

I'm not sure the best way to save the file in semicolon delimited (for others who may have problems, my excel is the version that is a part of MS Office Pro Plus 2010 that I got in the US). The way I did it was to save as a tab delimited text file, then open it in notepad++, then search and replace tab (\t) to semicolon, then save as *.csv. Also, excel adds quotation marks (") to the beginning and end of some cells which need to be removed.

Anyway, it works great now. Thank you both for the help.

This might be related to regional settings.

You know what's missing? The setup files for the scenario pack: 1862 Campaign, 1862 East Campaign, 1863 Campaign, 1863 Gettysburg, 1864 Atlanta and 1864 Campaign. Any chance of getting these?

First post updated to 1.04.

BRS scenarios missing on purpose, ask by PM if need be and depending of the result of several ordeals and testing, you might get it or not. ;)

Updated first post too. 1.05 is not official but changes to the DB should be very minor by now.

Pocus is on holiday right now, will come back to you early August. I believe some permanent hosting solution was found for these, but I can't find the links in my usual desk mess, sorry

Yeah, after I posted I remembered that we're in the middle of European holidays.

No problem, I am looking through the old database for the time being.
