NM conditions

I seem to recall that in 1864 the NM conditions for victory/defeat change. For some reason I can't find where in the event file this is controlled, does anyone remember what they are? It doesn't seem to change in the objectives screen.

The re-election event says they change, in the USA Events file .. Not sure I have seen it actually apply though

SelectFaction = USA
SelectRegion = $Prince_George_MD
StartEvent = evt_nam_USA_PresidentialElection1864|1|2|evt_txt_USA_PresidentialElection1864|Event-img_USA_PresidentialElection1864|$Prince_George_MD|118

Conditions
MinDate = 1864/01/01
MaxDate = 1864/06/31

Actions
DescEvent = evt_desc_USA_PresidentialElection1864
SetMoraleLevels = 60;225

EndEvent

In the CSA Events file there is a couple as well

SelectFaction = CSA
SelectRegion = $Prince_George_MD
StartEvent = evt_nam_CSA_PresidentialElection1864|1|2|evt_txt_USA_PresidentialElection1864|Event-img_USA_PresidentialElection1864|$Prince_George_MD|119

Conditions
MinDate = 1864/01/01
MaxDate = 1864/06/31

Actions
DescEvent = evt_desc_CSA_PresidentialElection1864
SetMoraleLevels = 25;175

EndEvent

So, as Union, 60 is my limit... Thanks!

Yes, happens with the election event which is tied to success, NM, at that point.

Those events are actually just the election campaign events, which is why they fire at the start of '64. They raise the sudden-death frame to 60 NM for the Union to capitulate, which is very high, and for the Union to win to 225, which is also very high.

At the same time the Confederate sudden-death frame is set to 25 NM for the South to capitulate, which is low, and 175 for them to win, which is also quite low.

However, once the election is over--Lincoln automatically wins the election, and there are no variations here--, these two events fire, changing the frames again:

Code: Select all

SelectFaction = USA
SelectRegion = $Prince_George_MD
StartEvent = evt_nam_USA_LincolnReelected1864|1|2|evt_txt_USA_LincolnReelected1864|Event-img_USA_LincolnReelected1864|$Prince_George_MD|96

Conditions
  MinDate = 1864/11/19

Actions
  DescEvent = evt_desc_USA_LincolnReelected1864
  SetMoraleLevels = 25;185
  ChangeFacMorale = 10

EndEvent

Code: Select all

SelectFaction = CSA
SelectRegion = $Prince_George_MD
StartEvent = evt_nam_CSA_LincolnReelected1864|1|2|evt_txt_CSA_LincolnReelected1864|Event-img_USA_LincolnReelected1864|$Prince_George_MD|120

Conditions
  MinDate = 1864/11/19

Actions
  DescEvent = evt_desc_CSA_LincolnReelected1864
  ChangeFacMorale = -2
  SetMoraleLevels = 40;225

EndEvent

So Union sudden-death comes down from 60 to 25, while CS sudden-death goes up from 25 to 40.

Union win NM also comes down from 225 to 185, while CS win goes up from 175 to 225; a very tough field to plow for the Confederacy.

Ahh .. that make more sense now as I recall winning a union campaign with less than 225 morale after the re-election/election events occurred.

Interestingly the assassination event does not change the morale win conditions, it just drops USA NM.

You would think that maybe that would reset the NM conditions since VP Johnson was a Southern born Democrat, though he did have the Republican Congress to deal with which would have limited his ability to give up the war.

Is this last bit in the Points To Know stickies? If not they should be.

Johnson was a Southern Unionist who favored the war, and was opposed to the Democrats
who advocated peace. He was never in favor of making peace, but wanted the war won.
He did advocate for a softer punishment for the South after the war though.

Yes, but Lincoln advocated for no "punishment" at all. He wanted to reunite the nation, and knew that treating a portion of the nation as having fewer rights or being criminal, would divide the nation equally as well as the slavery which divided the nation in the first place.
