How does one know if MTSG actually occurred during a particular battle? Is there a special indication or report somewhere? Also, did the question of railing to MTSGs ever get answered? Does it happen? Do es the stack have to be in RR transport mode?
Thanks

You generally know that MTSG worked because you find leaders of one or more stacks from neighboring regions in the battle report. While the battle is taking place you will generally also see a sudden jump in your sides strength. This can also occur if you have several stacks in the region of the battle to begin with, one or more of which were not selected to take part in the battle from the beginning. They could also be called into the battle, but that's not MTSG.
Being successful at MTSG depends on the 'marching' stack being able to reach the battle region on time to take part in the battle. If the stack has to march, the number of days to march into the region is considered. If that stack however can use rail movement to enter the region and has 'Use Rail Movement' selected, the time to reach the region is reduced to 1 day, which will more than likely allow that stack to MTSG and take part in the battle.
Stacks cannot MTSG further than one region. Also, MTSG is only within a single army command. So, for example if the Confederate player has a army under Johnston in Strasburg, VA (in 'The Valley'),not moving, but with the Use Rail Movement SO, and an army under Beauregard in Manassas being attacked by McDowell, Johnston's army cannot MTSG to help Beauregard for two reasons, 1. they both do not belong to the same army command, and 2. because Johnston is not in a neighboring region.
