I assume there is a limit to the number of Armies each side can have depending on the year. Can anyone tell me what are those limits?

I'm playing my first game. It's Late Feb '62 (playing as the Union). Grant was just promoted and I tried to make him an Army Commander, but no luck. Tried to remove Fremont from Army Command, to possibly free up an army command slot, but interface would not allow. Can anyone give a quick explanation? Thanks.

Until Mar of '62, you may form only 3 armies. Beginning Mar '62 you may form up to 6 armies. This limit later increases to 9 (I believe) sometime in 1863.

If you ever need more than six armies, McClellan needs a word with you.

If McClellan got his way, there would be only one army--his of course--and it would be situated where it would be the most effective--in the Florida Keys, on R&R and on Team Building seminars . That would be the most effective on the morale of the troops and their appreciation of his leadership .

If McClellan got his way (and didn't listen to the Pinkerton traitor), he'd have advanced his lines 10m a day to Richmond, ending the war in 1864.

I overload Grant and McDowell, then just wait for the new crop of 3 stars as they come off the field. I don't think I've had more than five Union army commanders since AACW.

Grant, Sherman, Meade, Reynolds, Hancock, Sheridan, Kearney, Ord, and maybe a couple of others, depending on the situation.

But by the time I get all may splendid armies in the field the Confederacy strikes their colors.
