Sieging St. Louis

Ok, so the situation is that I have the main USA Mississippi Valley presence boxed in (next to) St. Louis, but they are strongly entrenched, so I'm hesitant to do the frontal assault thing. It's early June '62.

I can place a division at St. Charles, a strong force in the St. Louis region, a division south of the Meremac, and a division directly east of St. Louis, across the river. I also have swept up most of the armed river flotilla available and have scattered militia/partisans for supply blocking. Further, the dept at (Quincy?) has been destroyed and I control Salem to the east of St. Louis.

My questions:

Can St. Louis supply a strength ~1400+ Union force indefinitely on its own without being directly under siege?

Will emplaced guns at St. Charles/East of St. Louis/in the St. Louis region block river supply from the Missouri River and Mississippi River if they are switched onto bombard (in a separate stack with no leader)? Or will I need to blockade the harbor directly (a pain since it has 2 exits).

If you Crtl+ click (it's either the left or right mouse button) with the cursor on St. Louis, then you will get a row of icons at the bottom of the screen. Each icon represents a structure in that city. If you cursor over each icon, you get a menu of the supply, ammo etc. that structure produces per turn. Add them all up and that is what the Union garrison will have to work with. A Division usually requires about 34 supply per turn and 1400 Power would equate to about 2 divisions.

Once your artillery reach a certain level and if the stack commander is active, the ZOC is supposed to affect the river supply.

You won't be able to starve them out, St Louis makes plenty of supplies all on its own, and probably has 1000 or more stockpiled already.

In my experience the PWR numbers the Union shows in St Louis are slightly inflated: there are a lot of militia and cavalry in that theater, and there are fort artillery in St Louis that add a lot to the PWR rating but not necessarily to combat effectiveness.

If you have four or five divisions, it is time to concentrate them and go for the gusto before the Union has a chance to slip anything else into St Louis on you! Come in from the West, and consider building a stockade in the region west of St Louis so that you can be sure of retreating back toward Jeff City if you fail. Also, if you are closing in on St. Louis you should Demonstrate there while you still can; it is easier to move the loyalty now than it will be once you own it.
