Bull Run 1861 Scenario

Hi, I'm trying to "get warm" with this game, and after doing the tutorials, I wanted to try the Bull Run Scenario.
My problem here: I've got the Army of the Potomac with Beauregard, Longstreet, Holmes and Bonham. I get a penalty for having only 18 Command Pints but needing 27. As you can't have more than 16 CP + Bonus, Beauregard (12CP) and Holmes (4CP) should be enough. So I wanted to take Longstreet out of the army and build a new division. But when I take Longstreet out and add a brigade, I get another penalty, because the brigade needs 4CP and Longstreet only provides 2CP.
Why does he only provide 2CP? As a One-Star-General he should have 4CP (manual, page 36).
And where do I see what Bonus-CPs are added to the Army of the Potomac?

Thanks,
Tex

Because all leaders outside of their chain-of-command--which means outside of an army or corps stack--have their base CP's halved.

Add another leader to Longstreet's stack and he will be fully commanded.

Try this, worked for me on release version:

My only AAR. It'll never happen again.

Turn 1 - Late July 1861

Warren VA

Remove Stonewall Brigade from Joseph Johnston's command.
Send Stonewall to Harper's Ferry, via Winchester.
Send Joseph Johnston and army to Fauquier, VA (Manassas) by rail.

Fauquier VA
Remove Longstreet and Bonham from Beauregard (should reduce penalty to about 5%)

End turn

Turn 2 - Early August 1861

Fauquier - Add Longstreet and Bonham to Joseph Johnston's command.
Move Johnston and Beauregard to Fairfax (Alexandria).

Victory day 3

End turn

Turn 3 - Late August 1861

Stonewall brigade to enter Harper's Ferry

Defeated Day 2

Johnston - to Prince George MD (Washington) directly
Defeated day 5
Beauregard to Washington via Montgomery

Major Victory VP 152 to -99
NM 229 to 0

@ Captain Orso
Thanks... I forgot about that. So many rules. Just wehn I'm so proud I remembered one of them, at the same time I forgot two other ones. I hope it gets better the longe I play.

@ Taillebois
Thanks, but too much info ;) Maybe I'll consider that later. Tactical options are quite limited in those little scenarios, so I'll try to work it out on my own at first. I just read the first lines of your post and then quickly went to the next post. But thanks anyway, as I said, I'm afraid I'll have to come back to your little "walkthrough" later.

@ Jim-NC
Hi, thanks for the welcome. I'll be here more often to ask stupid questions, so we'll surely meet again.

Be patient. All these little things will become second nature soon enough. I can still just about remember scratching my head and thinking about the CP rules, "that makes no sense, or the manual was written by a Frenchman". It was the latter ;)

I've got a questiion about the posture. I assigned very aggressive posture to LLongstreet, and he changed his posture automatically during the turn. As you can see here:

Why does he do that? Nothing about that is mentioned in the manual. Are there special rules about how Leaders change their ppostures in some situations by themselves?

WHAT!?! I've never see that happen. In fact somebody started a thread complaining exactly because that's what he wanted to happen and it doesn't, or shouldn't.

In this one case it was to your advantage with Longstreet. He's far better at defending that attacking. But still...

What patch-level are you playing on?

*haha* That's exactly what I do NOT want to hear wehn asking a question  It's like "Hey, you found an error that noone ever saw, so what did you do? ;)

My Steam version says it's CW2 1.04

Maybe this time it was to my advantage, but those posture changes hapened several times during my small scenario, and I just don't understand why, that's my main problem.

The only time your stack should change Posture by itself are in 2 cases:

1. If your stack is in DP (Defensive Posture) and it enters a region with =<5% MC it will automatically go to OP (Offensive Posture).

2. If your stack must retreat it will automatically go to PP (Passive Posture).

No other changes should happen.

You should create an archive in .zip or .rar format of your saved game and post it here so that somebody can look at it. The archive should contain the turn when you issued Longstreet the orders to go to AP (Assault Posture) and the turn directly after it. Any .rpl files should be removed and an extraneous turns.

Saves are in '..\My Documents\My Games\{installation name}\CW2\Saves\{game name}'. The files you find directly in '..\{game name}' are from the current turn. Those in '..\{game name}\Backup1' are from the previous turn, etc.

To upload an archive click the [Go Advanced] button in the lower right and then in the 'Additional Options' section below click [Manage Attachments] to select the archive and upload it.

I think this happens all the time. He won the battle on day 6, but there were still forces in Alexandria. He probably stopped his attack on day 6 because he didn't have the cohesion to keep fighting. He didn't attack the garrison on day 7. So by dawn of day 7, either his posture was red but somehow his low cohesion kept him from fighting or his posture changed. I think his posture changed (and I think the low cohesion might play a role in its changing but am not sure).

I was complaining about it specifically not changing, recently. I know for a fact that posture doesn't change, when it probably should.
I'l like to see this behavior all the time, incidentally. After a force succeeds in an attack or assault, the force really should switch to defensive posture.

Ohms, we could gladly discuss this back in your thread. Let's not inundate poor Tex with a theory-discussion.

Damn. No Backup Folder. I found the savegames, but no backups. :(
