Can anyone please answer this quick question: in order to stop supply moving along rivers does the button for "land bombardment" need to be ON??

I don't know, but I'm fairly certain that it doesn't. My understanding is that you just need the appropriate number of combat elements (naval elements with at least 1 firepower) in the river region.

I think land forces need to have bombard on, but I'm not sure.

To interdict supply moving through a river region--not across it using the jump-link--at least 1 artillery battery must be able to bombard into that region--if its Bombardment button is not pressed, it cannot bombard--, so "yes", the button must be pressed. Also, if there is a leader in the stack, he must be activated, even if the stack is inside a fort. In both cases the stack may not be in PP.

Also, just to fill-out the information, any unopposed naval[SUP]1)[/SUP] combat unit not in PP in a region--including a river region--will block supply.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realise that a leader needs to be active even inside a fort. Does that mean that in some cases it may be better to have these forces in forts without a leader e.g. so that they can block supply or attack enemy fleets ALL the time?

Just the artillery you want to bombard. It doesn't need a leader anyway.
