Changing Posture Problem

Fairly new to the game...
I am having issues trying to change my Army of the Potomac stack to a offensive posture. Actually the only posture it will accomplish is the defensive one. My army is still in the area right outside Washington D.C.
I have tried changing several different generals out and still have no offensive capability.

I suspect it is because your army commander is not activated.
Does he show a brown image?

The commanding general needs to be active to use the offensive posture. If he is inactive, he will have a brown envelope. Active generals have a white envelop.

Thanks to the quick reply, that's exactly what's wrong.
So how do I activate a general?

You pray to the god of gaming.
Activation is a probability roll based upon the activation number of your leader. This is the first number. 2, 3, etc. You need a 3 or better leader to count on being active.
