So I've never played the Confederacy...looking for overall strategy advice

Yea I'm a Union player however I do want to do a Confederate Campaign. I'd be very unlikely to say that the south couldn't have won the war irl. But in game context I really don't have a clue. Union gets the benefit of an overall strategy which makes it easier. I see the differences between the two in the game and from looking at manpower etc. It looks to be a suicide mission from the get go.

Anyone who can weigh in on this please do. Real life strategies, ones you've used in aacw and or cwii, anything at all. It's always welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My take is that you must use the army-corps support, March to sound of guns, to survive as the Confederates. That is, you select some decent regions to defend and hole up.
However, this alone is not enough. You must be willing to be offensive when needed. A force to stop Union sea landing mobile via rail helps. Then, select the one theater where the South will take the offensive. Middle Tennessee is my favorite because failure here has the least consequence and your forces can easily move to other theaters.
I try to have a superior leader in each theater, usually a cavalry leader, who can immediately attack a Union force before it can entrench. Broad bush, but overall idea.

Yes durk is right u have to use msg for your use for defending because normaalit when union comes it comes for lot of power behind it. Then u will have to made one stack with good power to stop union landings behind your lines, usually the commander should have the fast mover ability it helps u and RR are really useful too. And then when union attacks I usually use Forrest in the west and Jeb in the east to hassle them to nervous breakdown because they r fast and hard and they can b everywhere and union can't catch those two... Then after that u improvise catch the the union mistakes and use theme to hurt the Yankees

Are you looking for a NM win, or a VP win? In the full campaign, the only way to get a CSA NM win is to take Washington. If you want a VP win, then that is different. It also depends on if you are playing against Athena or another human. I don't play much against Athena, so can't offer you much there.

Generally speaking, use entrenchments and your rail system to move troops to where they are needed to attack/defend. The union has to attack, so you can cause large casualties by simply holding your ground.

I want a vp win. I've already gotten a nm win once before by taking Washington.
