havi & I are gonna tussle!

All we have agreed on so far is sieds - he the CSA, me the Union (aka Those Spiffy Guys in Blue).

* Where is the How to set Up a PbeM thread? I've done it before in AACW, but any walkthrus are welcome.

* If I have it right:

> OK, I don't really care about replay all that much - not having it I regard as lack of Intelligence and play the darn board as you see it, anyway.

> So, he can host - the CSA starts the game, issues Orders, saves and sends the csa.ord and...what else? He does NOT press end Turn.

> I receive the files, load, issue Orders & End Turn. Then I send...something...back to the opponent.

That's all I can remember right now - maybe i'll open the manual PDF. it's not hard, just gotta get it right.

One of the nice things about PbeM in Cw2 is that you can play to a decision before you have grandkids. Pat & I were pumping out five Turns a night at one point in a game.

5 turns a night sounds like a fast pace. Anyway, better a fast paced game, otherwise one could forget the overall strategy :)

There's strategy involved? No wonder I'm 0-4.

I copied the procedure as a text file & am co-ordinating with Esteemed Opponent as we type. Thanks, anyway.

OK so if the CSA are hosting each turn they will generate a *.hst file. Its this file that is sent to you. You make your moves and save it. That generates a USA.ord file. Its the USA.ord file that you send back to the CSA player.
He then loads that and does his own move and saves it - it generates a CSA.ord file (of course he could have done his own move before you send yours back) As you say the only thing he must not do is end the turn before he has received yours back and loaded it in.

If you do use the replay feature then the game generates a couple of extra files.....would you believe it called CSA and USA replay files. He just sends you the USA one.

Thanks. It's always nice to have a concise summary.

The manual is in error.

It states that the first thing the Host does is send a .trn to the nonHost. Well, after an attempt, it ended up with me Hosting.

April 61 - all the Union can do is make a Treasury decision(s). I exit and the directory has a *hst. I don't see a .trn at all.

So I have 'corrected' havi quite needlessly.

That's what I'm sending - the *hst initially.

Then he issues orders & sends me a csa.ord, right? I load that, issue any more orders & End Turn.

Then I send him a csa.trn, I assume.

I thought a .hst was a history file - havi called it a Host file & I was quite puzzled.

Thank God for your post, soundoff.

Ace's link to the CW2 wiki is authoritative.

The manual is in error.

Maybe we should summarize and sticky this subject. Like for instance, a short list of the 'extra' files that are nice to have, like replay. Any others? I knew this well when I was playing Other People, but...

Sadly the manual was in error from day 1. As for the 'extra' files there are only the replay files. When the host processes a turn all the game does is generate a new *.hst file. If in the intial game options menu 'replay' is set to 'on' then two additional files are generated by the game at the end of each turn. One called CSA.replay the other called USA.replay. If you are playing PBEM then all the host does is send to the opponent the new *.hst file and the appropriate replay file (not both of them)

Yup.....that's it. Must admit to start with it had me scratching the ol' grey matter and it's getting older and greyer by the hour :coeurs:
