We are all aware that CW2 is easy to learn, but difficult to master kind of game. So for all those folks asking endless questions, we have created dedicated CW2 Wiki. You will see that the Wiki is currently desperately empty and in need of good articles, so you are all invited to post articles on whatever you feel is important to the game.

On my part, I have started adding updated manual to the Wiki. Since this is huge tasks, volunteers are welcome to add text from the manual and update it as they see fit.

Ace, it might be easier for people to contribute if it's more laid out what the topics are that should be written about.
Is there a list of things that we as a community want in the wiki, or think a new player could benefit from?

No, there is not. You could post in this thread what you would like explained, or what you think it is important and can explain.
For, now, I am adding pages in the manual section of the Wiki, following the chapters as laid out by the manual, and updating the text where necessary.

I started working on the Army Organization section. I'm not sure how to pull the images out of the PDF manual, so that section doesn't have any images yet. I'll work on trying to figure that out. I also cleared up a couple things that seemed a little confusing language wise.

You can use pdf to word converting tools, or you can select picture in pdf, copy it, paste it in word, select the picture and choose save as image.
You should save it as jpg file.

Obviously a section on supply would be in order. Not much has changed between versions, so I would imagine some or all of the various AACW supply primers/wiki's could be ported over.

I have written a couple of strategy articles in private that might eventually be useful for the wiki. I would be happy to share them, but don't think they are wiki-ready yet. Where should I post them for review by others so I can get feedback on tightening them up and correcting inaccuracies?

There is no need for private reviews. That is the essence of wiki. Just post it there, and someone will edit any inaccuracies in the article.

Thanks for your suggestions Melvi. At the moment I am focused on copying over the manual, so any thoughts on what isn't there, but should be, is appreciated.

Thanks Ace, I created a Strategy page and posted an article on Stockade Warfare to it.

I'm bumping this....mostly because I have gotten the ambition to contribute a bit.

I'll ask Rafiki to open you the rights.

I should ask to be added as well. Not that I have a whole lot of time, but I can certainly write and edit, and I'm well acquainted with MediaWiki.

Which Wiki are you guys taking about? Ace has linked to the Wikia Wiki. I created an account just now and can already edit articles.

The AGEOD Wiki is an entirely different animal. There are articles in it about the AGEOD engine and modding and AACW specific articles, but nothing specific about CW2.

Good point. I was looking at the Wikia one earlier. Generally you can just sign up (or just start editing "anonymously") to those.
I'm too used to the AGEOD Wiki, I guess.

I like the AGEOD one better, regardless.
Wikia... I don't know, I just don't find it appealing.

Well, we should decide on one or the other so that we don't duplicate work (I will write some more, too).

Wikia: easy to use, open to all, easy to add screenshots, Ace has already done the setup work.

AGEOD Wikis: nice to have everything AGEOD-related in the same place and style.

I was thinking Ace's wiki....but looking it over, there are currently only 17 articles....so if we were going to place it with the AGEOD Wiki (where the AACW wiki is) now would probably be a good time.

(And even if I don't produce too many articles, I can always help index!)

I'm on a work trip/vacation for a few more days, but want to chime in that I'm all for getting an invite to the wiki (or contributing to the wikia wiki, if that is what is decided).

I'm happy with either choice, if Ace is an active contributor I would happily follow him (her?), as an active wiki is by far the most important consideration for me.

To be clear, my vote is Wikia, though I am fine either way.

I will contribute, so if we go for an add-on to the old AACWiki, then I would also like to be added by Rafiki (although I nominate Ace as our new wikimaster, if he wants it, since he is a knowledgeable, respected and most importantly active poster to the CW2 forum. Rafiki is knowledgeable and respected, but we don't hear from him as much).

Subjects that people have brought up for wiki entries/ frequently asked by new players:

Division formation
Corps/Army formation and organization
Activity
Supply questions (could be multiple entries)
Raiding
Unit specific info such as entries on Cav, Partisans, Artillery, Balloons, etc.
RGD info
[Added] Forum Abbreviations, including Posture/Order conventions


It might be a good idea to break out a list of things that have NOT changed much so that we can start by duplicating some of the AACW info.

Also, even if someone doesn't feel comfortable with writing new things, there is a lot of good stuff already posted, but buried in old threads. Links to old threads that people found helpful or containing good explanations or tips will help writers/collators save time identifying and researching important topics; we can get a lot done with some judicious cutting and pasting if we know where to look. (Lurkers and newbies would be especially helpful on this task: what posts helped YOU?.)

I think we can reasonably assume consent to cut and paste game tips and explanations posted on these forums, anyone disagree? A separate "quality links only" thread could be started to keep these all in one place (and preferably stickied once it gets good links so that it doesn't get buried, and as a reference for newbies in the interim until the info gets wikified).
