Union army defending Alexandria. CSA Army in same region (Fairfax) on defend. However battle fought as CSA went on offensive and lost.
Without the replay function I can't see if any armies etc moved in (well can't see anything - don't understand why this function was removed).
Is this WAD given in same region or a bug or random?
Now with save files
Thanks

Basically the rules say that if you enter a region in which you have >95% MC (Military Control), your force will change to OP (Offensive Posture) if they are currently in DP (Defensive Posture), otherwise they will not change posture.
If your force is standing (not moving) in a region this will also happen, but I'm not sure of the parameters, but they are not as cut-n-dry as when moving into a region. But if you find your force in a region with an enemy force which enjoys a much higher MC than your, you can expect that your force is changed to OP at the start of the turn, thus starting a battle with your force as the attacker.

I suppose you wanted to write :
in which your opponent has >95% MC (Military Control)

It should be noted that automatic offensive posture comes with a 35% penalty. So, no free rides for inactive commanders.
Don't do it on purpose, unless you know that you will have overwhelming superiority anyway
