Unit Movement Time

Hi. After viewing the 3 tutorials I'm starting to wade into the game. I'm playing the south in the full 2 theatre campaign. On turn #1 I captured Ft. Sumner with the Carolina detachment in charlotte , SC. After waiting a turn I want to move them to norfolk and
it takes 310 days to march and 62 days by rail. Cohesion is about 90% and no I am not trying to move the fort batteries with the
carolina detachment. This seems like an extremley long time to move such a short distance. In the orginal game I could move them by rail to norfolk in under 20 days.

Is this a bug ? I'm using the lastest patch.

Thanks

Might be because some states have not seceded yet and your forces cannot just go straight there but must take a round about trip thru friendly states.

Geohff Good call ! At this point in the game only Virginia, Tennessee and Arkansas had seceded. For the Carolina detachment to get to Norfolk from Ft Sumner I see it had to go all the way into Tennessee and then through Virginia to get there instead of using a shorter route. As we know, in the original game all the states had seceded when gameplay begins.

Thanks !

Gampelay tip.
It would be easier to track your forces if you issue movement orders with 1-2 turns duration.
At the beggining of next turn cycle through units without orders.

Tip : you can use riverine movement to move through the coastal regions...

This occurred during the 2nd and 3rd turns of the game - no river or sea transports available then. Have to wait til north and south carolina secede in order to get these troops to move in direct path to norfolk instead of taking the extended scenic route through Tennesee which shouldn't be too long.

You can transport them by rail when Tennessee and Virginia secede.

You don't need a transport to use riverine movement, you can choose it the same way you choose to use railroad movement (the two order buttons are one next to the other).
