You'd be a better pick than I would. I simply love the game. I have been a
beta tester for one other game though: Battlefield Heroes. That was a lot of
fun.

The process will be this one:

Everybody needs to apply at Slitherine.
All files will be forwarded to us at Ageod. We want many new players, so to have a fresh look, but previous players and any people having been helpful in past Ageod betas will have also great chances of being accepted :)
You'll sign a NDA somewhere down the road
Beta testing will be done at AGEOD.

There are some tidbits of infos at this page, plus a few screenies that might wet your appetite (I hope!)

I am heartened to see my comrade-in-arms Jim take up the banner of this meritorious cause. It does require becoming partisan, to make the choice to stand with one side or the other. As for me, I seek to join in our common humanity in the war against the bugs.

They're making a Starship Troopers game? :mdr:

Now, that's an idea! Licence must be pricey though :)

I see on the Slitherine product page for this the minimum system requirements include a 1024Mb video card. Is this correct? That seems quite big compared to previous AGEOD games.

This is on the safe side, the map is bigger than in ACW1. Video card with less than 1024 Mb are also quite old, meaning they don't get their driver updated for years...

Will the game be more resource demanding than AJE, graphics wise?

I may have to buy a new computer for this one :) .

I might have to get a new graphics card....

It's either a very extravagant FPS

or it's a Whack-a-Mole™-like game :w00t:

The old Avalon Hill boardgame was kind of like the latter. I
played that game so much I had to make copies of the tunnel system
map. I really loved that game.

Well, my HP G71 has an onboard graphics chip. That being said it does have 1695 Mb
memory and can just barely handle some 3d graphics. It was good for the price 3 years
ago. I wonder if they make a graphics card that will fit in this laptop? I really want to
be able to play the next version, even if I don't get to beta test.

I'm pretty sure that the game is not going to be worry so much about 3D rendering, since there are no 3D graphics ;) . It needs the graphic memory to handle the huge map :w00t:

1024 MB scared me - I only have a 256 MB card. But Windows reports Total Available graphics memory of 3067 MB, dedicated graphics memory 256 MB.

I assume it is total available that matters?

Re Starship Troopers - liked the book and board game - would work well as a PC wargame to manage spotting, ambush and the combat. Nice FPS game too if using the Heinlein Mobile Infantry techI, not the film's. The combat side of the movie was very different from the book, but it caught the spirit of Heinlein's book well with a nice satirical touch.

So a July 4th release date? That's very appropriate.
