More how to play than lets play

I'm going to put up a series of videos on specific aspects of the game in an attempt to explain things and help new players find their feet. As such, none of these will involve a lengthy period of game play and each will concentrate on a very specific aspect.

If anyone wants a specific topic doing, put in a request and I'll do my best. I probably will not cover warfare as such, but if you look at Watch me lose Paris, that covers the essentials. Equally, I'd suggest dipping into Manufacturing Italy which has a lot of detail on specific game mechanics.

Economics

The economic model in Pride of Nations is elegant but key information is spread out over 4 different information screens. So in this group of videos, I'll try to cover:

How to read the screens;
How to set up your economy on turn 1;
Building up your economy;
How to balance your economy;
Trading strategies.

Diplomacy

Colonial Actions

How to read the screens

This first video in the economics sequence primarily concentrates on how to read the 4 key screens for economic management - F4, F11, B and T:

For those who only watch to hear my cats, I'm afraid they were all fast asleep.

glad its helpful, there is only so much you can grasp from the manual, I'll confess it took me a while to understand how the T screen operated in terms of allowing you to export.

I'm afraid they are not in the next one either - its warm and no football so they, very sensibly, are all asleep outside :)

This video sets out one strategy for balancing your economy on turn 1 of the game. It has the goal of keeping to a very limited usage of coal and to slowly accumulate Private Capital.

thank you both.

Sorry about the gap, I've had the raw material (ie a save with some data) for about 2 weeks but struggling to find the time to make a recording. Anyway next one will up later today (there were noisy cats around before I started but they stormed off before the actual recording).

I think WiTE would be an ideal game for this sort of treatment. One time lets play is better than a written AAR is when you are trying to show feedback loops. As opposed to quite complex text/images you can just show how to do it and the consequences. WiTE has a mass of that sort of interaction, that you could show so easily that way.

This is the third in my series on basic economic management. I've run the save turn from the earlier post to the end of March to gather the information I need.

As I paid no attention while doing this, I missed the fact that I seem to be at war with Prussia .... only a small threat.

I picked up the 1880 DLC campaign and decided to get back into this game after not playing this game for well over a year and felt so lost when I was looking at the F4 screen. Thanks for doing these videos because they helped me re learn the economy aspects to this.

Loki100,

Many thanks for taking the time to make these videos; they threw a nice strong light on some gray areas.

Really a stellar thread. I have not yet digested the content.
