Seastroms

How can I avoid massiv losses by seastorms?
I played PBEM with pompji and wants to use my naval superiorty, but most of the time I travel by sea I get into seastorms and losses much of my army and fleet.
Because I can't see in which seazones the next storms will appear, I get helpless.
In the PBEM I lost, because Pompji wants to land in Tarentum and my fleet travled in the big seastorm and I lost more than half of my army.
Are there options? Can I reduce the losses of ships and men in seastorms? Both seazones are coastregions, why did I get so much losses?

Sea travel is a bit of a crap shoot, that is, you take a chance each time your navy ventures into the sea.
There are a few ways to minimize your risk of losing your fleets.
Seasons of the year do matter. Try not to travel too much in the winter.
Watch current sea storm areas. Often Sicily is my area of conflict. Do not use the automatic movement option, but trace sea region by sea region to the side of the island with better weather.
Of course, the only way to insure no losses is to stay on the land.
There are no options, just watching, plotting movement, and watching the weather.

Are there any rules in which seazones more often a storm comes? What is the chance, that a sea storm in a seazone will be two turns in a row?
