River blockade and

Playing the Parthians against Crassus, I want to defend by using boats to block a river crossing.

It seems to work, but I can't find any rules about that feature. Does the posture matter? I use Offensive posture, but is that necessary?

When Roman forces enter Oshroene (Northern Mesopotamia), Oshroene switches sides to the Romans. The Parthian land forces are thrown out towards a place outside the borders, but boats in harbours switch sides as well. This was a big surprise.

In a subsequent game I tried to defend the area by using the boats, and strong armies on the Northern Frontier where there is no river.

However, when a Roman army attacked my defensive army, the treason was triggered, and my defensive force was thrown back out of the country. This I found a bit non-intuitive, as it makes it virtually impossible to defend the country.

Is the option meant this way? (And where do I find the script for this event?)

Hi

Yes, I think this event is meant by the designers (AFAIK) to work exactly like that.

You can find the script in the file PAR-1-Crassus53.sct, located in the Events subfolder of AJE (or BOR); search for evt_nam_CMN_AgbarRalliesOsroene54. Notepad will do.

In short, as soon as at least 10 roman infantry and/or cavalry elements are in at least one of the regions of the "Area_Oshroene" (that includes $Edessa|$Apamea|$Nicephorium|$Carrhae|$Oshroene|$Reisaina|$Tigranocerta|$Nisibis|$Mygdonia|$Arzanenia|$Singara|$Chaboras|$Oshroene Minor|$Daria|$Confluentes Chaboras|$Euphrates Superior|), the event triggers and Oshroene switches sides

(you can find all the areas used by the game defined in the Areas file in GameData subfolder, BTW)

I suppose the intention is to trigger almost always this event, to simulate what happened historically. Of course, there is always a fine line between historical correctness and gameplay...

Regards

(PS1: IIRC the tooltip of the river regions tell about the mininum number of ships to block the crossing

PS2: events and areas can be modded, of course; just remember to keep a copy of the originals; and that future patches will replace your changed files)
