I ran out of money playing one of the factions in the 4 emperors scenario. I am wondering if there is a spreadsheet somewhere for income and expenses? I clearly spent too much money. How do you plan your expenses so that you don't run out of money?

Also how do you decide if you need to have your merchant ships repaired? I noticed I was losing ships regularly. Too often to repair them every time they lost a ship. So do you repair once or twice a year? How to you decide it is time to have your merchant ships repaired?

The only constant expense is the upkeep of your forces, and that amount you can find out from the treasury's tooltip. All the other expenses are caused by your choices, that is, recruiting troops and activating events. In March you'll always get a lot of money when the taxes come in.
