Can I save a game on my laptop etc and email a copy to myself and play on my desktop? each is on the same version of windows.. not that that should matter

Yes. You can do this.
All files for the current turn in the saved games folder are needed.
I you have done PBEM, just like that. If you have not, just highlight all current files, probably bundle them with zip or rar, then send. Create a new folder on you desktop in the saved game folder and dump the files into it.
