In the past I have seen a remark that the 'delayed commitment' option favoured the Romans.

Default it is set to 'small delay'.

Are people changing this option, or is the 'small delay' the optimal setting?

About the 'historical attrition' option: some factions don't have depots, or very few. Doesn't this change the balance, as these factions cannot restore destroyed elements under the stronger attrition rule. Can they use the depots of allies?

I always set the delay to long, I think it represents better the problem with forcing a battle in ancient times. Battles didn't happen unless both sides wanted to fight, sometimes camping near to each other for days on end.
For me "long delay" seems the best way of doing this.
As for historical attrition, against the AI it should always be on for the human only. (AI needs all the help it can get.) I think it should always be on for human v human aswell, it is more realistic.
