Losses due to attrition, not listed?

Hi
I do know that the game reports Attrition Hits in the message box like:
"Caesar exercitus suffered 8 hit(s) from exhaustion or wear and tear, in region Spoletium"
What exactly is the effect of one hit? The manual says "Losses from attrition are reflected in reduction of Cohesion and elimination of Strength Points" but northing more.
Does one "hit" to cohesion affect just one unit or all units in a stack?
Also, I see that any of these "hits" that result in man power loses seem to only affect one random unit in a stack at a time. I have noticed that any man power loses due to Attrition don't seem to count as far as being recorded and noted in the Objectives screen in the "Prisoners taken and our losses"/"How many men we have lost so far in the struggle" box. Is this intended? Seems a bit odd.
It would be good to have a better appreciation for exactly how many units are lost due to attrition as I understand attrition was a major factor during these times.
