Hi there, I am playing a pbem of the great Mithdriatic war as the Pontics, I have several cities under siege, when do the Pontics get to build siege engines? Is it through an option or do they become available to build after a certain time?

Thanks

Only the Roman legions can build siege towers while besieging. With Pontics you would have to transport pre-built siege towers to the province. I say would because it doesn't seem like you can actually build these siege towers in this scenario... I found that to be a bit weird because in the Marius vs Sulla scenario Pontus has siege towers.

Seeing that the Marius v Sulla campaign is set before the Mithdriatic war surely the Pontics should be able to build them, Is there any historical reason that the Pontics cant build them in the great war scenario?

Or is is an oversight that needs fixing?

Thanks

dont think so, WAD...

Legions had one ballistae per centurio, so nearly always both, knowledge to build ramparts and towers out of nothing and the siege engines.
While non romans either copied the roman techniques (like Gauls did with digging trenches and towers) or brought in pre-planed equipment. however in game this preplaned equipment comes in a single unit, the siege tower and not from the military units itself. for sake of the "roman superiority" in this matters it is valid.

without that many supply wagon you shouldnt be able to sustain multiple sieges at all. that you need a siege tower for ending them faster is both, balance and ensuring that the non-Romans CAN break walls...

not 100% sure, but pontians should have one buildable in all scenarios, shouldnt they? Devs...?

I can't build any siege towers in the Great M War scenario and I don't find any in the preplaced armies either. Not that I really feel like I need them anyway, when you use your navy to blockade the ports the siege is usually over rather fast anyway.

i can only say for sure that i captured multiple ones in the Marius Sulla scenario. Played the GMW mostly as Ser. while testing and Romans after publishing.

let my question be answered / modified in game by the devs, if they please...

Not in GMW75, Pontus was severly trashed a few years before and still licking its wound. It lost Asia Minor and the Greek engineers and expertise in siege warfare that went with it...so no siege towers for them here is WAD. What can be done if plaers feel it's a playbalance must is to add 1 or 2 of these in the force pool, to be built if the player wishes to spend the money on them...

We discussed this among the team and in next patch PON will have available in the force pool 2 units of catapultae that will be buildable if the player so decides.

How about an event to expand the pool if the PON player manages to reach Greece ?

I have started off some debate.... I would be good if the Pontics get at least some building capacity regarding siege engines, Just a question, when will the next patch be released?

Thanks

i like that approach. might having one in the setup and getting one more by event/diplomatic option etc....

even simply adding to the forcepool is ok, good base for modding for multiplayer purpose, without changing the original files

Since siege engine knowledge was already available in the world, I would suggest making a general option in the first few turns. Make it cost a good chunk of money and a few eps. It would essentially be a decree from Mithridates to whatever "engineers" were available to start experimenting with building the siege engines he had seen with the Greek allies in first war. Then some turns later (3-12?) have a few siege engines appear in the force pool, maybe one on the map as well.
