In game legionaire/manipule infantry vs Phalanx

I'm trying to figure out what stats exactly result in my phalanx armies (playing as Pontus and the armies being lead by the competent King) being man-handled by the legionaire infantry. I know the whole legionare v phalanx debate, but a phalanx army should not automatically be whipped just because the opposing force is legionaire infantry, Phyruss the great anyone? Is there a stat or mechanic that is bringing about this result?

The chance to hit in melee are calculated as Discipline * Melee * 0,5 (in percent). Compare the phalanx and the Legion, and you will understand :)

Then, compare the damage dealt.

It will be significantely tweaked in 1.01.

It is not a problem related only to legion vs. phalanx battles but it is affecting legion vs legion battles also. You may read more about it in this thread. As Narwhal said, it will be tweaked in upcoming patch.

First let me say how much I am enjoying AJE, one question though... any idea when the 1.01 patch will be released?
