Dual hosting with Matrix and Steam version seems to not work, are they different somehow?

It does work to dual host using Steam and Matrix versions. But you need to be very careful to be in the exact same version. Beta patches do not appear in Steam, which is the usual reason for the mismatch. The Steam player should note the version and then let the Matrix player match as the Steam version is harder to change.
