I am considering picking this game up and was wanting to know if its pretty much done being patched? Also, is there much PbeM potential or do people mainly play solo?

Thanks for those links. I saw the QwikFix 1.06a QF3 patch link but not the 1.06a patch.

There are two unfixed problems of note I can think of - some Baltic Sea naval provinces cannot be crossed and the restriction of certain units to only be able to operate in certain areas and affect local opinion afaik does not work. There's also RUS Gold, an improved version of the game, which is in beta test right now, but might not be out for a while.
That being said, I would recommend you the game. It's incredibly comprehensive and well-designed and will last you very long time. Both the gameplay and the aesthetics will, I think, certainly please you. Especially at the current price, you should seize the opportunity to grab it.
Also, if you haven't played any other AGEOD titles, it might give you the appetite to try out other games using the same engine.

RUS is an amazing game which is, as others noted, fully patched. You asked if people play in single player or PBEM. I would say the pinnacle of enjoyment with AGEOD games are PBEM, but I have also spent countless hours of enjoyable single player games in RUS. I found that playing the Reds is the most fun while playing single player, as the AI is helped by surrounding the human player, making it a better challenge for the player. (The AI is pretty good by itself, although never to the level, of course, of a competent human player.)
If you do get the game, I would recommending starting as the Finns in the Finnish Civil War scenario, then doing the Polish campaign, before progressing to the grand campaigns. This is a good way to steadily but manageably immerse yourself in the game.

Sure. Gold was aimed for this 2014 year, but I feel it will rather be for Q3 2015, at worst 2016..

As long as it's out in time for the Centennial, I'll be satisfied.

No worries about the PBEMs - I am going to stay here for quite some time, I only bought the game a few months ago and have been inspired enough to buy most of the AGEOD games as a result. The adverse result is only that I have not even managed to finish my first PBEM of the 1920 scenario yet.
