Armored Trains and Supply Source

I noticed both heavy and light trains carry huge amounts of supply. Use is 1 supply per turn while they carry 40 supply units per element. Supply wagons elements use 1 supply per turn while carrying 20 supply units per element. So are heavy and light trains considered supply sources for other units during combat and provide the supply source combat bonus?

If not, should they? Or were trains used as supply sources and should be portrayed in the game?

I also noticed a railroad engineer unit in the model database. I wonder what was the intention behind that unit.

If you inspect the train element, it should tell you that "is a support" is on no. So I assume that trains just have a very high inherent supply, but do not function as a supply source for other troops.

AFAIK, armored trains are not distributing supply/ammo in forces in neighboring regions, like supply wagons (chariots) units do. It share this supply only with all the units/elements which are in the same stack.

Armored trains will carry much more supply/ammo in their unit in the next version, so that it can simulate one of their historical use : crossing territories with enemy partisans which are blocking the supply lines and escort a large supply stock to remote fronts.

Sounds good! Have some ideas on using them... :)
