Sieging and assaulting cities

In my game as Southern whites I come across two instances of long sieges. In the first one I was sieging Tzaritzin and decided to assault without breach. There was a big Red army inside the city. During turn processing I was sucessfull about capturing 4 artilery units after the battle. But the reds didnt surrounder and 4 red units remain in the city. I assault again but I was not succesfull didnt make a breach. It lasts 10 turns for city to surrounder.
In the second example I siege Moscow. There was again a big army protecting it. I assaoult without breach and again captured batteries and artillery. This time only 1 red fusilier unit remain in the city but despite assaulting(3 breach made) I can not take the city for some turns.

Edit: After 3 turns Moscow was under control of my cossacks :D
Unpredictable nature of sieges. 1 unit in the city figth to the end.

As playing S. Whites, Im sieging Ekateriondar for a few turns(I guess 4) and it seems it will take more turns to achieve a single breach. In RUS forts are rare so there are mostly multi-level cities. But they are taking longer to achieve breach. although I cut supply from all over locations to Ekateriondar before.( Im sure if I attack with all-attack posture I will get the city but with casualties)In my previous games sieging and achieving a breach in Tzaritsyn and Moscow also took very long time. In all there situations my big stacks sieging have 88% supply avarage, maybe it is a big factor for breach.

Tanks really help with this.

Another lesson is, as a defender, build forts.

Yes , forts are expensive but worth it. Tanks also sound cool ;)

Another example of siege in Petrograd, Mannerheim army sieging it for some turns. At first I assault and capture the artilery(they are locked) after 1 breach(red color,no defensive bonus for defender as written in message log.). Then again siege continued as there are garrison left in it. It is 3rd turn and message log saying no breach is made this time. Red color turn into orange and in map it shows there is (2)breach achieved and no defensive bonus, but in message log contradicts. Every turn Mannerheim army refuses to assault breached or not breached(?) city.

Edit:Later Fin army made 4 breach in Petrograd(in message log) in map it shows as 3 breaches as red color but no assault yet.

Mannerheim is probably not assaulting because he is an army command and there is another friendly unit in the region, the captured fort artillery.
Army HQ will not assault unless they are the only friendly force in the region.

Thanks Ebbingford, Yes I suspect that, but generally fort batteries or artilery captured when assaulted without breach, captured battery is locked after the assault so can not move it. I also suspect message log about total breach is wrong. Breach symbol can be sometimes under airfield graphic it is hard to identify the breach. In message log below shows no breach made.

Well because of that captured red artilery and delay Reds came and kick him out out of Petrograd not fair :w00t: :)
