The feature is desactivated in this game (there are no Hqs either)

Ah, perhaps we should remove the choices for this from the Main Menu...

Yep!

I agree! That had me a mite confused as well!
Cheers
can i ask why we can't (have the option to) redeploy generals?

i'm trying to send wilhelm von preussen out from praha to take charge of the 'army' out in koenigsberg (NM/VP hit otherwise) and it's gonna take him 44 days to get halfway across germany?!?
when the king tells you to get yr duff out east to take command, you don't trouble him w/ how muddy the roads are... can't collect my staff... too much baggage... -- you grab yr marshal's baton and go!!!

Remember that by 1750's, there were no railroads and very few paved roads to go around in around...this ain't be any AACW here
So IMHO, 44 days moving by carriage / horse on muddy roads of Eastern Europe in mid 18th century is nothing unusual or shocking, especially if you consider the distance covered

uh oh

certainly not looking to scrap w/ 'the big guy...'
Walking directions are in beta.
Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.
Walking directions to Russian Federation, Kaliningrad Oblast, Königsberg
765 km – about 6 days 11 hours
Suggested routes
Route 296
765 km 6 days 11 hours
Route 5/E261
767 km 6 days 12 hours
Prague
Czech Republic
you know i love your stuff!!!

but man, i really don't want my general officers lollygagging around when i need them to click-pop out Ostpreußen-way

this is google maps' version; as a former infantryman, i just know that a month-and-a-half's travel time had better get me pretty darned far... especially when mounted! but hey, maybe it really was 8 times harder to get around back in the day -- i have no doubt we all take our modern paved roads and highways for granted

Teufel, I'm pretty certain Google maps did not consider such long distances in their calculations. I'm an above average walker at 6km an hour, but it would take me over 21 hours a day of walking to travel that distance. Obviously that's impossible as it does not take into consideration hourly pauses, foraging, preparation of food, sleep and many many other factors. Not to mention that roads in the 18th century were in quite different conditions to roads today. And even on horse back (and alone or in small company (as movement of large bodies obviously takes longer that movement of small parties) you wouldn't travel that distance in hardly more than 6 days (to travel on a horse at sustained rate you will be trotting most of the time, but obviously need to take breaks to feed and water the horse (even assuming you change horses at coach stations you will have to accept some delay), then you'll still have to give horses a breather and in the end you won't be traveling much at night. Not to mention that a horses' trot is only about 1.5 times my walking speed (I work with horses)...
And there are so many more factors to consider, things like following main roads and not going by any back way that might be shorter but harder to navigate, might be lacking coach stations etc. No, travel in the 18th century, whether on horseback, by coach or on foot was mucher slower than those Google Maps numbers...
P.S.: My calculation. Under optimal conditions, assuming the shortest route is possible, one could travel those 765 KM on horse back in 10 days (assuming a little party, 10-12 hours on the road each day, taking a 5-10 minute break every hour, changeing horses every few hours). Though I'd estimate that an aged general were more likely to die the day he arrived in Königsberg rather than lead an army there. Double that time would seem more realistic, again under optimal conditions (but not killing the general in question)...

FYI in game turns, a Leader moves at 100% LiteFoot rate.
This means 2-3 days per clear, woods etc terrain
region, + 1-2 days per river crossed. {4-5 days/region for Mountains, swamps, etc.}
IIRC, Road bonuses are minimal for clear terrain, but help in the others...
So, they are 'walking' at same speed a regiment of Light Infantry would move.
Too bad they are all pompous European Royalty, so we can't give them the Ranger movement class seen in WIA
WIA design decision: {to assign $Ranger move to leaders}
PhilThib stated:
I agree to this...except for some top leaders (French "Royal Army" and English from the "Home" army) for which this would be tantamount to losing prestige and status (they use only carriages or prime horses, not b... native canoes By Jove)

yeah...

i hear you, i just feel it's too slow, whaddya gonna do?
back in 1754, on the other side of the world, george washington & co. got themselves in a heap of trouble with the french in a backwoods corner of the american colonies called pennsylvania... after their defeat in the battle of fort necessity, the then-brits retreated back to virginia (about 400km):
"the garrison marched away with drums beating and flags flying, but the Indians and the French began to loot the garrison's baggage on their way out. Washington, who feared a bloodbath, did not try to stop the looting. The Indians continued to steal from the soldiers until July 5. Washington and his troops arrived in Virginia in mid-July."
that's two weeks tops -- on foot, mind you -- with a bunch of guys and baggage that were just defeated in battle and lumbering out of the wilderness. i'm only suggesting that a general, even encumbered w/ staff, and on horseback no lesscould find his way along more expeditiously than all that.

Probably nothing, because right now, it is WAD (Working as Designed).

I was just about to ask the same question. Damn, I'm going to have to send a general to East prussia and it'll take him 144 days!!! The russians will plow through my armies there in no time, unless I pull a tannenberg :P

144 days seems a bit long. I expect he is 1) not active and 2) weather is really harsh. While he executes his move he should be active at least some of the time, so those turns he will make good on some lost time. Also the weather is likely to become better, so he will again be able to reduce that time. So in the end you can be certain he will reach East Prussia much faster than those 144 days...

We shall be improving a the move ratio and type of leaders to gain some travel time, so they will have a a 'historically reasonable' transfer time

Sea voyage anyone?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Oder Fleet. You can get Wilhelm von Preusen from, say, Frankfurt to Konigsberg in about a month, well before the first winter of the game.
yay!

thank you very much! i thought i was the only one who noticed this... seemed everyone thought i was nuts.
i understand why we can't simply redeploy, as austria'd simply send a 3-star to stralsund and end that mess up there, right quick.
have i mentioned that you guys are (& continue to be) the bomb-diggity?
