"Give More Time" AI Setting

What is the general consensus on how much difference "Giving the AI More Time" really makes for a more challenging game? Game turn processing is currently running about 5 minutes w/ it on...I don't want to hurt the AI but would welcome a speedier turn resolution....

Just wondering if this makes a huge, moderate or only slight difference in AI ability...

Thanks.

I think the difference is quite really moderate, and with the long turn time of pride of nation it is nearly a suicide (of the fun of the game) to activate it, unless you have a very powerfull computer.

hmmm...I timed my last turn...close to 7 minutes for resolution....I notice that the tool tip for the "Give AI More Time" options says you basically give up 25% slower processing time for a 10% gain in AI intelligence...

in every AGE game but PoN I use the 'more time' option, gives a far better game. In PoN, I found using 'hard' as the basic setting (forget what the actual title is) worked well. It seemed to give the AI the tools to handle its economy better and made wars that bit harder. I know the game is meant to be balanced around the standard setting, but I didn't see any undesired consequences of shifting to this.

You can of course do the 'more time' option if you are involved in a major war (when it might improve the AI's decision making) and switch it off in peace time.

I have been experimenting with this setting...it seems that I get mixed results either way...some of the turns actually took LONGER with the more time option turned off....usual processing time is running between 5 1/2 minutes to 8 minutes....I guess it all depends on what is going on...

It extends the 'depth of search' of the AI on various algorithms, so I think it is not possible it takes more time without than with it :)

As for what you gain, this is probably 10% performance gain for up to +50% time now...

Thanks. Perhaps it ha something to do with me switching back n forth mid game...I have switched the option off as of now and will continue to monitor...
