Tutorial Videos

Nearly every game you can think of has loads and loads of tutorial videos on YouTube and let's plays....except Pride of Nations. There's a few let's plays with no commentaries, just music playing all the way through. So you obviously learn nothing. Plus there's a quick Dev's video just describing the overview of the game.
So how come? Does anybody know of any, on another games videos channel like Blip, etc?
I bought PoN in a Paradox sale along with HOI3, CK2, V2 and EU3. All of these games are well represented on YouTube as are other AGEOD games like Alea Jacta Est (yes I know I've probably not spelt that right) and WW1.
So why no Pride of Nations as the game looks likely to be much more complex than all of the above, so you're gonna need all the help you can get while learning the game?

.....also, would I be right in thinking PoN is a more complex and difficult to learn game than the others I mentioned above?
I do like the look of it but I don't want to take a lot of time up getting to grips with a vertical learning curve if the game sucks! However, I'm assuming that if you like grand strategy games, you will like PoN?

Welcome to the forums wadeyboy :wavey: .

No fans have made a video I guess. To me, it's more complicated than all the other AGEOD titles. Not only do you have potential wars, but you have to manage your economy during peacetime as well as wartime. You have to research, and there is the colonial game. It's a big commitment, the main campaign (1850-1920) covers 1,680 turns. I would recommend Loki100's AAR on the game, if you want to find out about it. He was playing Italy, and played all the way to 1918 or 1919 I believe.

Well you could also take a look at my AAR as well, but I haven't finished my game yet, I'm at 1900 at the moment, playing with The German Reich, if you have any doubt about the game, just ask here and I'll try my best to provide you with a good answer, Loki and Kensai (and so is Jim, who didn't indicate my AAR to you, that's the reason why his name is between brackets :mdr: I'm kidding Jim don't get mad at me :coeurs :) are also very active on the forums, so rest assured that any doubt you might have shall be answered, I would advice you to play the 1880 campaign though, it's a bit shorter and it's much "cleaner" (and much fun) than the 1850 scenario, that "isn't for the faint of heart".

The game is much better, but at the same time much harder than the others you mentioned, so if you like a realistic aproach from half of the 19th century til the end of the first world war, this is the game for you, but be warned that it ain't easy, but the reward is surely worth it, no other grand strategy game get's you nearly as immersed in history than Pride of Nations.

Cheers. :)

Can you tell me how detailed the economy system in the game is please? Do you have a lot of maths involved because if there is, there's no point in even trying to try and learn the game? I've hated maths since my school days so that also means I'm useless at the subject!

its a flow system. Some goods are inputs that are needed to produce other goods, some goods are end user goods. So coal is both. Its the mainstay of your economy (most things need it to be produced) and your citizens want it too. Others are inputs into the production system and needed to make new units/factories etc (manufactured goods are an example here). Others are purely for consumption (most luxury goods).

You have 3 basic types of goods - food, common and luxury. for your population you can, to some extent, substitute between say rice and wheat (ie both are food goods).

Have a look at my Italy AAR, if you open the first page there is an index and there are a number of posts (scattered across the whole thing) where I discuss how to read the information (there are 3 main screens you need to pay attention to) and how to balance your economy and trade.

You shouldn't worry too much about maths playing PON, btw I also hate math, besides statistics that I studied at the Geography college and that is cool (in my opinion of course ;) ), so I think you shouldn't be afraid of math in this game as it's not any kind of prerequisite to be able to enjoy this amazing game.

Yes, Loki's AAR is really fascinating to learn how to play the game and he's surely the best candidate to make tutorial videos :D
