how do I get additional economic structures?

My food production has gone crazy, I produce way too much preserved food, and I cannot get it sold. Instead I convert it into goods, but now I can build no more canned goods factories, seems I have built the amount I am allowed to.

I know I can shut down production facilities and try to balance things out in this way, (this is what I am doing at present) but what I really need is manufactured goods. So the best solution for me would be to build more canned goods factories.

Is there a method to get additional economic structures?

the base game has limits of each factory type per nation (this increases over time). It also helps avoid the AI building too much of one type. The option is to use the no constraints approach (I forget the proper name) this will allow you, and everyone, limitless access to production cards.

Thanks for the quick answer. Gonna wait, then.

This food chain business is quite challenging, the fact that you can only turn on/off all preserved foods production makes it very difficult to figure out how to balance things, imho.

Basically I am running a few turns with everything on, gaining preserved foods and loosing grain, cattle and fish, and then, when I hit 1000 preserved foods, I turn food preservation off and watch my grain, cattle and fish stocks increase, until my preserved foods hit zero.

That is what you will have to do (cycle the preserved food on/off to manage your stocks). I would recommend setting limits of like 200/800 (200 minimum, and 800 maximum), to ensure you always have some preserved food, but not too much. Also, have you looked at purchasing preserved food from abroad? It may be cheaper than converting your own food. For example, if all your food is worth $3 per unit, but preserved food is worth $2, then why not buy preserved and save the money.
