After messing around with the new CleanupLoyalty console command, I eventually gave in and decided to restart my game as the US. I have now noticed a pattern to the US events listed on the F3 tab and thought I’d post about it so perhaps the bugs can be fixed. All 3 events that build up force pools or conscripts are apparently bugged.

First off I’ve found that if you play an event option for the very first time and it fails, that event will never show up to be played again. If the event succeeds and you play a different option the next time the event appears and it is the first time that different option choice has been chosen, that event will never show up again if that different option fails the first time it is tried. So basically any event option that fails the first time it is chosen means that event never re-appears.

If however you play an option that has been chosen before which succeeded the first time it was chosen, then the option cannot be failed. It appears that nothing happens if a fail is rolled and the option is simply placed on the F3 page again for the next turn. I had this happen several times in a row and eventually the option passed and you get the reward for a passed option.

This makes it extremely important that players re-roll the option that gives the US conscripts if it fails the first time you try and play it in a new game. Without that option it is impossible for the US to build infantry Corps, as they take 300+ conscripts to build and the US tops out in the 200s with normal conscript growth and decay (ever increasing decay as you save up conscripts eventually wipes out any positive growth), so that event is imperative if you ever want to be able to get enough conscripts to build infantry corps.

In my new game I lost 2 of the three events to initial fail attempts, but luckily succeeded on the conscript’s event, so didn’t need to do a restart once I recognized the pattern. My first game all three events failed early (2 right away and 1 after failing a new choice the second time around), so I hadn’t realized they were supposed to all re-appear once a year.

It would be great if these events could be looked at and fixed.

In my new US game, I’ve been on a massive infrastructure building program, and have come across a possible bugged region. Kansas will not allow me to increase the fort size beyond the first level I built. I can neither upgrade it nor extend it, but for the life of me I see no reason why it should not allow the fort to be built up.

I’ve built up almost all the forts I’ve created to level 3 both in the north and south, so I don’t think it’s a population loyalty issue. The only odd thing I noticed was there was a Trade Depot in the region when I took the time to closely inspect things at Kansas and I deleted it thinking that was the problem. But months if not over a year later I still cannot build up the fortress. With the Civil War looming soon, I don’t want to delete it, but maybe the fact I built it over the Trade Depot caused it to bug out or something.

Here’s the current save:

We checked the potential issues around that, then tested it because the scripts appeared OK to both PhilThib and I ... we don't reproduce that.

Sorry, no further investigation right now, time is running out for the official patch.

No problem, thanks for trying Pocus. But this does leave me wondering what is going on as I’ve never seen any of the events except the conscript event re-appear in my new game and it’s into 1858 now. The conscript event has appeared I think 4 times total now and none of the others have shown since they were first failed.

So perhaps it’s something specific to my PC or operating system that causes this? Is there anything I can do testing wise on my end to help with this? I’m in no rush regards to the patch, but I’d like to help squash this eventually if possible.

Jim

Edit: I do notice there is some minor confusion though. The conscript event I'm referring to is the one all the way to the left in your screenshot (it rewards you with 100 conscripts if it passes). And then the two others to its right are the ones that have vanished (one increases land unit pools the other naval unit pools). I don't think I've ever even seen the event you have circled in my new game.

I recently had a gold rush event fire and a gold resource was placed in the region of Winnemucca. But for some reason I’m not allowed to build a gold mine in the region. As the below screenshot shows, I am allowed to build minerals quarries, but when I select a gold mine to build it turns red. These shots were taken one turn after the event fired as I thought perhaps I needed to cycle a turn first before I could build, but still no luck.

Anyone have any idea what is preventing the building of the gold mine? I also show a mouse over of all the colonial buildings in the region for reference.

The civil war has started in my game and I’ve got some difficulties with how it is implemented. There needs to be a new event created that resets Union morale after the loss of all the southern territories. I began the war with 1 NM (I assume it crashed due to all the loss of territory announcements) and it isn’t recovering very fast at all at just 3-5 a turn on average.

The net result of this is the union army is simply disintegrating in the field due to lack of conscripts for upkeep. Almost every naval vessel is ¾ to full red, and most artillery units were also but the few replacements I had allowed them to recover to about half red, but they are still losing ticks and may again end up full red or dead soon.

I’m not saying that union morale shouldn’t take a hit, but give them an event driven boost on the turn after the war starts of +40 or so to help prevent the lack of upkeep disintegration from getting so out of hand. I’d also give them a lot more free replacements to help rebuild the navy and army, what they get now is nowhere near enough to keep things from getting ugly fast.

It’s been at least 6 or more turns since war began, and my morale is still below 30. Conscripts basically don’t exist, so my navy has now begun to die for lack of replacement elements. I’m finding myself in the comical position of watching the Confederate navy steam hither and yon without a care in the world. The South rules the wave’s lol…

Here’s a screenshot of my replacements screen. As you can see if the Union morale ever does get high enough to allow conscripts to grow again, it’ll take years to be able to buy enough stuff to rebuild my damaged forces. Assuming the units don’t simply start dying off in droves soon.
