No Peace terms with China?

I am Russia, in 1867. I am at war with China. I have taken all of Manchuria, and all of Korea. I have one hundred war score. When I look at terms I can offer China, the peace interface gives me literally nothing to ask for. I thought I might be able to demand a transfer in colony ownership, as I have taken the Chinese colonies of Manchuria and Korea, but nothing shows.

I am very familiar with the interface, and I know how to find things, but when I click upon a particular peace term I get a blank space where the alternatives should be.

My attempt to take Peking from a huge Chinese army was defeated by the AI, and I am wondering if I have to take Peking, the capital, before I can get peace terms to demand.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Taking Peking will surely give you a huge warscore surge while plunging the national morale of the Chinese. You should be seeing already the warscore levels of each peace arrangement though. Well, you have to take the capital and see what comes out of it. Perhaps the Chinese come themselves afterwards and beg for peace while ceding their old colonies to you.

Nice play, btw. Please post screenshots of your battle in the Chinese capital! :gardavou:

What are the terms you can ask for? Even with 1 WS, you should see them all...

I didn´t have any war with China, but playing as Russia I found that I can´t ask for Kars to the ottoman. At least I could take Constanza... (both provinces were russian objetives before the start of the war)

Pocus, I cannot see a single peace term. When I click on any of them, I get a blank screen in the area where the terms and their cost in WS should be displayed.

In all my previous wars, all the terms were displayed, when I had any WS at all.

I am playing the latest patch, applied over a new installation of the game, no mods.

The AI is not cooperating with my plans to take Peking. They have a massive force there, with a huge amount of emplaced artillery, and supplies. The last time I attacked, they defeated me, even though they had twice my losses, and used their immense cavalry superiority to destroy two of my corps in the pursuit. Now I have plenty of cavalry, and have concentrated an immense army, but I cannot get enough of my three star generals to activate at the same time, and I think I need three full stacks, moving at the same time and arriving together, to have a good shot at victory.

And supplying such a large army is a real challenge, even with depots, supply trains, and merchant ships off the coast.

I thought it might be easier if I took the port in the province in front of Beijing, and used that for supply. However, the AI had a fort, and a huge garrison in the city, and I could not supply a large enough army to besiege and take the city, so I had to make a shameful retreat. And it is now November, and winter could strike at any time.

Problems of supply and coordination make this far from a sure thing.

Now I have taken Beijing, and no change. One turn after taking Beijing, I have WS of 155, Chinese national morale is down to 3. No peace offers, and I still get a blank when I click on a type of peace term.

Please zip the .trn and .hst file of your campaign. Say a turn after you take Peking and 3-4 before. I will load them here and tell you if it happens to me as well.

Kensai, where would I find these files? I am a bit computer challenged.

Kensai, if you find something weird, keep me posted. I like the fact you can do some preliminary checking for me, as I have not much (understatement) official time for PON right now, but I can do the efforts of checking one evening a save ;)

Thanks Vaalen for the report.

Using Windows Explorer, go into your C:drive and locate your Pride of Nations file. On my PC, this file is located in my Games file. In the Pride of Nations folder, open the VGN folder which will give you your Saves folder. Inside the Saves folder, find the game in question and open. Inside you will find the game file, the turn and hst files. Zip these files and send them to Kensai.

Inside the Saved Game file, you will also find files labelled Backup. These files contain the previous turns' game, hst and turn files. Kensai indicated that these files may also be needed.

Kensai, I have attached the three backup files, which appear to include the files you asked for. Otherwise, I have only one tran and one hist file in the saves folder.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah, life has a way of interfering with game time. Truly appreciate your doing this.

Thanks,

Many questions I have, because indeed I cannot ask for anything in a peace treaty. What version of the game you play?

1) With China, I get an error message (an exception of some sort) when I click on liberate nations or transfer colonies. This is not normal.
2) With Bukhara, huge warscore over 1000, I don't even get a diplomacy option, totally void. Although it's a limited war, you cannot even ask for peace.
3) With conquered Korea, I get to offer peace, but no options as well, although no error message fortunately.
4) On F8 I see some inconsistencies with the actual map, on claimed by us regions. It says, for example, that Anatolia is a Russian National Region (!!) and Kuriles influenced by you, although it is clearly not the case.

Have you run scripts of some kind? I have not resolved the turn yet, will be doing this soon. The I will post the log (v1.02).

You probably don't run the latest version since while resolving I was getting errors (mostly warnings "there is no one in this regions" fix 562 and 1262 codes). Fortunately these were not fatal errors.

However, nothing new happened in the next turn. You still can't demand anything. :(

---

If it is of any comfort to you, care to join our ongoing MP playing a minor nation? There is a lot to learn and we use custom scripts to have colonial actions and national decrees even for unscripted nations. We also try to crush bugs as they arise, so gross inconsistencies won't be seen. Turn submission is rather relaxed, once per day, compatible with a healthy real life and your concurrent SP campaign. ;)

Kensai, I am running a fresh install with the 1.02 patch, no scripts, no mods. Earlier in the game, I did get the peace interface when I was at war with Turkey, and it worked normally.

I did not get any errors of any kind when I ran the game on my machine. I just cannot get the peace interface to work now, not for Bokhara, not for China. Now that you know this, do you have any ideas?

Your multiplayer game sound interesting. Would this involve installing a mod, and how would that effect the unmodified game?

I am also running 1.02. I do not get any error messages when I click on liberate nations or transfer colonies. I have no idea why you get the error and I do not, since we are running the same version. I just get a blank space in the peace interface.

Who knows. I really can't help you more than this, although your initial query is confirmed. The error is indeed repeated.

Come to the Paradox forums (link in the PBEM section of PoN here in the AGEOD forums) and we could accomodate you. No changes are needed for your game are needed, you can still play your own modified or not game independently. Only the hosts need to implement changes. So it's kind of ideal. :)

Would you be interested for a nation such as Persia or Egypt?

I believe Egypt would be probably much more interesting to play ;)

Is Argentina or Brazil available? If not, I would consider Egypt.

Brazil has just been taken, Argentina is free, AFAIK. So is Egypt.

Persia is in a mess - the initial setup isn't very good, so it ends up needing things it can't possibly get. However it is fixable.
Egypt has no economy at all.

Argentina has a small economy and should be in a reasonable state.

If I do it, I would like Argentina. But I will be unable to make a decision on committing to the game until after next Monday, due to a crucial work project.

At current pace, the game will reach 1920 in 5 years, real time! :D

So no need to hurry indeed. Argentina, Egypt, Persia or practically any other not tribal not already taken... choose your liking we can prolly fix it for you.

I'll post soon a quickfix (i.e you need 1.02 to have it work), but you can try on your side with this PON executable. Please confirm it is working for you too.

Pocus, this is working perfectly! No more problems with the peace interface, and I even got a peace offer from China. It will take a while to get the warscore up to demand a colony transfer, but we have time. And, as the Russians used to say, "We have a lot of people".
