Can someone post the .cfg settings for running the game in windowed mode? I can't seem to find the right values.

If you didn't know:
. You can use the
AGESettings.exe in
\Pride of Nations folder (but I don't understand it..) which modify the following file:
. I directly try by editing the
Display.opt file (with WordPad, in
\VGN\Settings folder)
Mine is (my monitor is 1920x1080 with 144DPI, not usual 96dpi AGE games are made for):
ScreenWidth = 1600
ScreenHeight = 900
ScreenDepth = Default
ScreenFrequency = Default
Cursor = Hardware
FullScreen = 0
Windowed = 1
Borderless = 1
BrigthnessLevel = 0
MapBrigthness = 0
SeeTutoFiles = 1
SeeAIFiles = 1
D3D9FullScreen = 1
RegionsBorders = 1
NoWinterBitmaps = 0
I 'play' (if ever I did) in fullscreen, but with a lesser resolution than my monitor.
Maybe try with
D3D9FullScreen = 0 ?

you can also set bordeless = 0 if you want to see the regular window frame and move it around.

How can I change the display resolution when playing via Steam? I didn't find the config file mentioned above?

Steam, as a DRM, can forbid the hacking (like here, even it's a light one for a good goal) or modding of a game. You should ask on their forum.
Maybe you already did and they told you are not allowed to touch a file?
Buy Ageod games through their site, and you will be fine as it's DRM-free here:

ERISS, thanks for the quick response. In the meantime I have been able to actually run the game in windowed mode via Steam.
My original problem was a huge lag with the interface (eg scrolling, F-keys) rendering the game unplayable. It appears that the windowed mode helped a little bit, but the experience is still far from enjoyable...
Any ideas besides the detail settings and assigning more memory to the game? My laptop is not that old (2-3 years) and it even has a separate graphics processor with some dedicated RAM.
