Latest patch?!?!?

So, I played a great many AGEOD games and I was on the fence about this one (I like the more battle oriented games usually...) Not the Grand Strategy so much.
For my, Birth of America was a master piece, and is to this day my favorite Ageod game by far.
Anyways, so I decided to get this game. However, I didn't know it was more complicated to get it from steam (for patches).
So what I want to know, is:
If I got it from steam, do I have to manually patch something to the latest beta?
Thanks!

No.
Pocus stated yesterday that the first official patch is up on Steam.
So should be no issues.

Thanks so much!
And I promise not to buy on steam again! (or does it matters now that you are part of the greater evil that is Paradox Interactive?)

Steam is not evil (when it works). I love to have my games in various PCs. Automatic updates and other perks help as well.

Yes it matters. I do possess my Ageod games. When bought on Steam, you don't own them, Steam does.
Property is evil as in money ride world it easily theft your possesion.

Yes, but apparently if you buy from Steam, you get the patch.
Why is the patch only available to Steam customers? What's up with that?
Seems like they're penalizing their oldest and most loyal fan base - the folks who have been visiting here from the beginning.
They really, really need to get their act together. This "we're just a small company, so sorry we released the patch on Steam and then vanished for a day and forgot about the rest of you, but remember we're just a small company" routine is getting really old.
Are they a real business or is this just some sort of hobby of theirs that we're supporting? I'm beginning to wonder.

You are blaming the wrong people. Paradox makes all these decisions, not Ageod. I have no doubt that the Ageod I know and love is not responsible for this.
The patch had to go through Paradox quality analysis. Ageod has no control over that. For all we know, Paradox QA has only finished the steam version, and has not yet cleared the the non steam version.
Were you aware that Paradox owns Ageod?

I have all of the other AGEod games too execpt PON (which I am interested in gatting). But at the moment, I'm waiting for PON to be playable off of Steam (and that includes the patches too) before I buy it.

With the latest beta patch, it is more than playable. It is magnificent!

I'm aware. But that doesn't prevent them from posting here and over there to explain the delay.
The only thing worse than a screw up is a screw up with no explanation.
That's the difference between a business and a hobby.

Patch 1.02 works great and they have solved the coal shortage! Still some path finding issues with France, but nothing major. Game is great and very playable. Viva La France!

That's for it does is a business. Steam is big, Steam is first.
Imagine: The Witcher 2, DRM free on GOG, has been 81% sold on Steam, and only 15% on GOG. Go figure how Steam users are prisonner of it..

The delay bugs me less than the lack of communication. I understand there are different distribution channels with different QA procedures, timetables, priorities, etc. But is it too much to ask that Pocus or someone spend the few seconds it would take to post an explanation here? That's just a very poor way to run a business, if that's in fact what they purport to be.

isnt it pointless to keep on the discussion...
- IF he wants to get your point, he will answer
- THE DELAY between Steams patch and his post of 1.02 was merely about
24 hours or not
- he just show that AGEOD is still a bit independent. he pissed on the boots of PARADOX while making the official 1.02 public here and putting it in the tech forum for registered-only users there...
really, if i look out of the window i find better points to argue about... even if i look on my own HDD, a unfinished mod for PON... ^^

you have a valid point, we already all access to the patch, and AGEOD still some good behavior left

Okay, I really think you need to stop speculating about how wronged you are and really put things into perspective here...
#1. All of the many MANY beta patches that AGEOD has released over the few months have NOT been Steam compatible. Steam users had to do loads of jerry-rigging in order to get a beta patch working that users like us who bought it through AGEOD could apply with NO issue. Steam has a policy of only official non-beta patches.
#2. This patch is the ONLY patch officially released through Steam. As I said earlier, Steam users pretty much had to either do tricks in order to apply a beta patch, or do with the release patch version of the game until now. So, they patiently follow through the process, and you scream bloody murder when they finally get something easy and first?
Honestly, think about it, do you really think AGEOD sits around thinking how much it can screw people around? "Yeah, lets release the patch on Steam one day before we plan to release it to others, that will really shove it to them!" while they twirl their moustache's toasting to evil!
Steam is not accountable to AGEOD, if it has something, it can do what it wants, when it wants to, and not have to ask for permission. That is how distributers work.

Of course no. Paradox, Ageod owners, did the decision to let Steam first.

They can and should do a better job of communication. Others who have been here awhile may be willing to let it slide for old times sake. But it's a poor business practice and will cost them customers in the long run. Every now and then, someone needs to tell them what they need to hear.
And, I've also complimented them for the quality of the patch. So I'm not being too hard on them. Just reminding them what they ought to demand of themselves.

You know of Occam's razor principle? Same here, the explanation about the delay is the simplest one. Patch was sent to Steam a few days ago. We waited to have Steam publish it, but knew we would perhaps not have a fore warning, like 'hey guys, patch will be online in exactly '3 hours 24 mn'.
So this happened, they put it online, and when they did, we did not knew about that, we had to wait that someone reports to us: 'Steam has patch up, you have green light'.
That's it, and nothing more. No evil scheme, no insult planned.

I think you may be overreacting a bit. I did not feel screwed in any way. I have always felt that Ageod has done very well by us, and Pocus did make the patch available the same day we learned about the steam patch. Others had a stronger reaction, but I think the main thing was a desire to have the patch. The idea that Ageod is planning to torment us is beyond absurd. The Philippes are true gentlemen, and they would never do that.

And why? I still don't understand:
You tell us the deal between Paradox and Steam (and you tell us you have to obey) is that Steam must release official patches before others can do it?: that still would be an insult for others. Here Steam do us more a finger with its lion's share.
So, if that's it, yup you allowed Steam to spit again on pc gamers.

This is a perfect example of a "problem" that could have been avoided with just a little bit of communication.
Here's what you posted over on the Paradox forum:
Update: The 1.02 patch has been (at last!) approved and is now on its way to Steam. Once it is up there, it will be up there too
(I assume you meant "here" instead of "there.")
That's different than this:
Patch was sent to Steam a few days ago. We waited to have Steam publish it, but knew we would perhaps not have a fore warning, like 'hey guys, patch will be online in exactly '3 hours 24 mn'.

You just need to take a few extra minutes and be a bit more thorough and accurate in what you communicate. That's just good business hygiene. And it will save you time and headaches in the long run.
Have you ever been in a crowded store or fast-food restaurant - the poor guy behind the counter is trying to deal with 20 customers? There's two kinds of that guy - the one who works away with his down attending to one customer at a time, and the other who occasionally looks to those in line and says "I'll be with you in a minute." Which guy do you think makes a better impression? And who actually gets an easier time from the customers? And it takes, what, two seconds?
I know you're busy. But if you're going to take the time to post something here or elsewhere, it's worth taking the time to make sure what you post is clear and accurate. Just some friendly advice.

Calm down, good fellows. We got what we want and faster than many has hoped. I am still waiting for ROP 1.03 official and this for a long time, but the Phillippes are nearly alone as a team and thus it needs some time to give us all satisfying feelings.
THX pocus for your explainations I think we got our true share on infos...

Stop whining and give this issue some perspective.
PON with Patch 1.02 is absolutely outstanding! Good job by Paradox, AGEOD and heaven help us, Steam. Enjoy the game and enjoy the Paradox/AGEOD gaming community that is also PHENOMENAL! And yes, it was a pain to copy the game out of the Steam folder to C:\Games, register and then download and apply the BETA patches, but it was a learning experience. I enjoyed the inputs of various AGEOD/Paradox game players and their insights. I can't wait for patch 1.03!
