Conflicts of the Period

Just thought i would post something to maybe add some life to the VGN section of the forum and maybe get a bit of info out of the devs. So i was just wondering what conflicts members might see modeled in the game. I think early on something was said about boer war and crimean war as being possible. Oblviously Japan/Russia. As for my two cents, Boxer Rebelion, Gordon/Kitchner in Sudan, Rebelion in Upper Canada, Oh, maybe not that. Was more of a big bar fight than anything, and i think the only one arrested was an American. So maybe others would have a few ideas and would like to add to this post. Thanks. And i can't wait for this game.

I wanna see the Spanish American War and the Phillipine Insurgency. And the Franco Prussian War.

The Franco-Prussian war is in already. I have stuff to develop the Nile Campaigns (1883 to 1898) and possibly the Taiping Rebellion (the Boxer is a bit too short to be of interest)

I'd love to make the Spanish-American war :coeurs: , but I would need some kind of OOB + chain of events to work on this one

How about the ACW and the WW1 ?
Are they speciffically in ? ;)

They should be, and we do have almost everything we need in terms of OOBs and events...just lacking the time to include them right now.

Yes, we have the data, but we need more hands and brains. That said, in any case, you'll get several scenarios and campaigns start anyway...

I would love:

Russo-Turkish War of 1877
Balkan Wars 1912-1913
Italo-Turkish War 1911-1912
And it would be awesome if most balkan wars (ie Serbia vs Bulgaria; Greece vs Turkey of late 19th are in too).

Russian Turkiss 1877 is there for sure, I have started to work on the OOB.
I got some daya on Italo-Turkish too, needs to be a bit more researched though...
Balkan wars could be fun... :coeurs:

As a rule, we just like hands and heads to develop these :(

I'd love to see the Sepoy Mutiny/Great Rebellion of 1857. The Boer War would also be very cool ( well the first part of it anyway).

See Comtedemeighan's specific thread for the OOB information: http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=13930

Not sure about an event chain but at least it's a pretty inclusive starting OOB.

Yep, we already have that info thanks to him... but since you are pointing to a private forum, I think it is better to remove the link... ;)

Will those conflicts be set in stone? Or will there be ways to accelerate/delay/avoid them, depending on game circumstances?

I understand they are talking about historical short-medium scenarios about these conflicts that will be included in addition to the long campaigns.
I bet that in a long campaign, this and other conflicts will happen or not (or happen at a different time or way) depending of how things develop in each game.
Cheers!

True, and the challenge is to avoid the game moving away too much from historical paths when you are late in the grand-campaign you are playing from the start.

To do proper justice to this vast conflict, this would need a dedicated game in my humble opinion. So VGN will not cover this civil war, few chances anyway.

If only you started 5 years earlyer there could be the mexican american war. but at last i just have to be contented with every conflict that will be included which will still be fun.

I would like to see to be included these scenarios of Japanese conflicts.

The battle of the republic of Ezo(last stage of Boshin-civil war).

Seinan Sensou(The West-southern War).Satsuma rebel army vs early Japanese empire army. The origin of the battle of the "Last Samurai".

Sino-Japanese war(especially, the sea battle of the Yellow Sea).

Interesting choice of conflicts... nothing to do with you being from Japan? :siffle: :D

I hope the First and Second Schleswig War's are included as events. I would really like to defeat the Germans as Denmark.

Unless you mod the game yourself, you will not be able to do that in the Grand Campaign... because you just can't play with Denmark.
You can only choose the Major Powers of the era.

Obviosuly, like in any other AGEOD game, everything is moddable... so you can "unlock" any faction you want in your own mod. ;)

Russian Civil War - 1917-1922 - is a major conflict. It is probably more important than the American Civil War, in terms of influences on the world's history.

I hope that one day, AGEOD would be able to realize it and that gamers will help them with their time and their roubles.

So it really deserve a dedicated game...
...BUT i think it should also appear in a simplified way, like the ACW, in VGN :

Because this conflict is not only the "Russian Civil War".
It is also the "World's Revolution" that most of the european people wanted or feared like the plague after a long bloody century of imperialistic wars and a spreaded poverty with a wild industrialization and capitalism.

It could be a perfect end of the VGN game spirit :

If the players ruling an European power can't face at the end of the era the socialist or communist revolutions, especially if there is a WW1, and limit it with a "cordon sanitaire" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordon_sanitaire), then they should all loose the Big Game of the Victorian Era...

That would be a good end for VGN and could finish the game in a collaborative way between PBEM players if Athena is managing the revolutions.
