Hello everybody,

here you can find the beta patch 1.08Q.

Here you can download the beta patch for the full version:
http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/3rdParty/WW1%20GOLD/Patches/WW1_Patch_v1.0.8q.exe

And here for the demo version:
http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/3rdParty/WW1%20GOLD/Patches/WW1_DemoPatch_v1.0.8q.exe

Important: this patch is for Gold Edition only.

Herewith I listed all news...

[Version 1.0.8q]
*************

New features:
>> PBEM play mode now generates a PBM file every time the game is saved. This file contains the informations about local player. So, every time PBEM players must share a common SAV file because the game went out of synch, they are no more requested to modify the SAV file because the driver informations are stored in the PBM.
>> Updated the PBEM Manual PDF accordingly.
The purpose of this new features is to allow a "host-client" PBEM play mode: a host is designated among players, he is the only player who executes the end-turn procedure and saves the game, then he sends the .SAV and .MAP to all clients.

Improvements:
- Game updated to version 1.4.0 of irrKlang sound library
- Added some outstanding rendering performace improvements in map window
- Only HQs and GHQs are now displayed in the mini-map
- Major Land Battle AI is now more reluctant to retreat when one combat flank is won
(*) AI is now much more reluctant to play negative or self-killing events
- Large river crossing tests (performed during movements) are now automatically successful because they caused loss of synchronization in PBEM or Multiplayer mode
- Added memory lock checks in game audio engine to avoid crashes caused by memory access concurrency conflicts
- Corrected the picture of Turkish general Nureddin Pasha, commander of the 4th army in 1914

(*) Scenario corrections:
- Fixed the Event "England delivers Sultan Selim and Reshadieh battleships to Turkey" (FRA_003)
- The 'Strikes' and 'Nationalist Agitations' Events cannot occur anymore before 1917
- Added 'Mutinies' Event for France and Italy, it cannot occur before 1916 and has little chances to occur before 1917
- Fixed the Event 'Commercial submarine "Deutschland" arrives in Baltimore' wrongly scripted (not mandatory)

Fixed bugs:
- Fixed a rare bug in land battle AI that caused an infinite deploy/undeploy loop in case of major battle when 3+ corps were deployed on one flank and only 1 corps on the other flank
- RP stock level is now downgraded by one point when corps are eliminated during land battle after CR_Eliminated or MR_Eliminated results
- New PBEM mode now automatically sets the EventsDrawn parameter off (Turn section) when Clients load a shared PBEM SaveGame file
- Fixed crash in battle logs window
- Fixed bug in events loading procedure that made uneffective all die roll modifiers for event checks

(*) : not working for older savegames

Best regards,
Calvinus.

During next weeks, I will probably update this patch 1.08Q with further corrections and improvements. In fact, I'm experiencing some map slowness as reported by some other customers, so I'm going to investigate on possible causes and try to find a correction.
To avoid any misunderstanding, such slowness has not been introduced by 1.08Q, I'm just saying that some recent change in my PC configuration made WW1 runs so slowly, so my purpose is now to understand if there's something I can do to make the game run fine.

In the meanwhile, those PBEM players who reported the bug (http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?26439-Problem-in-battle-via-PBEM) fixed by 1.08Q, can continue their game. :coeurs:

Many Thanks, Sir! Have seen this bug happen from time to time, it's pretty rare from my experience but providing a fix is a very class act. Thanks again.

I think you need to update the link in the URL, if I directly click on it, I'm downloading version P instead of Q.

Both URL are updated, the usual copy & paste error of friday evening, tired after a week of huge work! :mdr:

I deleted the P patch on my HD, as I forgot it was made official.
Maybe add "Beta" in the .exe patch names (WW1_Beta_Patch_v1.0.8q)
and the names without 'Beta' could be the official patches (that we have to keep the last to reinstall a clean non-beta game).
Ok, I can download it again, though..

A new revision of Beta Patch 1.08Q is online, download links are unchanged. I updated the top post with the new features.

Some feedback by the current PBEM players about the new PBM file feature will be welcome! :coeurs:

I'm happy to hear you're investigating the slowness issues - I've tried all the suggestions on this forum, and they helped make it playable - barely - but it's still very frustrating. I hope you find the roots of these problems.

New Pc with Intel I5 second generation with 8 gb Ram it is still very slow like 7 fps on campaign map. Interestingly in my older pc it was running smooth like 20 fps when not using proper ATI drivers. I'm confused maybe it is related to video memory when running 1920*1080 resolution. But nonetheless I hope there can be a solution to the problem.

I did several profiling tests with no success. Now I'm having no time yet to work on WW1G with the proper concentration, sorry... :(

Entente Wins!
German Victory!

I played Germans and lost Tannenberg scenario but the above end of game screen came up - minor point but if there are further patches.

Other than that the only benefit of a windows 8 laptop with 8gb is that this game seems to run Ok, so I really must learn how to play it now.

Hi Calvinus - I will add my name to the list of folks who find the game barely playable due to excruciatingly low fps. Super-fast iMac running Win7 64-bit, tons of other games run butter smooth (including Rise of Flight, yah!), but I am just too frustrated to play this one. Very sad, since it is clearly a marvelous game when it's working.

Help!!

Well, after trying a few other approaches, I finally stumbled upon the idea of disabling all the sound, and that indeed seemed to do the trick - I'm back to a framerate that is tolerably good. Now I'm started to wade in to figure out how the interface works, and the actual rules of the game ... but I won't whine that until I've actually RTFM ... ;-) I'm soooooo psyched to get to the point where I can really drive in and PLAY this game, it clearly is so rich.

Hello, herewith some news. :)

I'm going to publish an update of 1.08Q by tonight or tomorrow.

This update will contain the fixes reported in the following threads:
- http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?27614-Units-eliminated-not-reducing-RP-stock

For the slowness issue, I've recently hardly cleaned my PC, the game works quite better even with sounds and musics on, but it seems some drivers are still broken and I'm not able to install many software packages, such as the development tool plug-in profilers I'd need of in order to improve game performances. So I'm really in a bottleneck... grrr! I'll try to iron out some solutions, but I have little hopes. :(

Thanks.
Win 7's default direct draw and direct3d drivers seems to speed up game quite well.

Sorry for big pic.
From my previous beta patch game; Does redeployment phase consider isolated units? In tooltip they don't see isolated but, nonetheless they can be deployed south of Russian stacks.

You should not be able to redeploy isolated units and I suspect that even though the units that you have highlighted are not isolated, redeployment should still not be possible since the redeployment path takes you across non-national territory.

However, I have seen what you're seeing with regards to units that should be isolated, not being isolated in a very similar situation and location. There seems to be something about that area of Galicia that allows Austrian units to avoid isolation there under certain conditions but have never been able to figure out why.

I have a solution for the problem of mouse. I put the image in low resolution in the configuration of the game and change the parameter of the mouse (also in the configuration of the game). It's work nearly perfectly, even under Vista !!! Hope it will help...

Outstanding news about FPS in Map Window. I developed some key improvements that actually improved considerably the rendering performance! :) :coeurs:

Then I introduced other improvements:
- Strikes and Nationalist Agitations Events may now occur only in 1917 or later
- Fixed the Battleship to Turkey Event: http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?24753-Battleships-to-Turkey-Event-Fix

Scheduled improvements:
- AI should be more reluctant to retreat after one side is won: http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?27645-AI-witdraw-when-has-a-victory-in-one-flank
- other changes suggested here: http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?28193-Great-Game-a-few-queries&p=261777&viewfull=1#post261777

An update of 1.08Q will come soon. After some days of testing, the goal is to make 1.08Q as the official new patch.
