Potential Solution to the Map "Problem"

Like many folks, I find the game map to be a bit disorienting, though I am getting used to it. I know some have raised the possibility of the map being adjusted in some later patch, but given the enormity of that undertaking, I suspect that's wishful thinking.
So I wonder if an easier, quicker solution would be to have a map page in the ledger with a conventional orientation and overlays to show things like the current fronts and diplomatic alignments. I can deal with the game map in plotting details, but I really miss an overall strategic map. I think I'd be better able to handle the tilted game map, if I had a conventional map to help reorient me from time to time, plus show the strategic overview at a glance.
