Is there a way to brighten the colors, for instance in the political map mode? I just want all the colors not so rich and dark.

I have looked in the colors.xls file, but see no entries for the map modes, or for individual countries.

For the political map mode, which was really bothering me with the dark colors, the file to change is /data/db/goldscenarios/[scenario name]/nations.csv. In that file there is a line for each country with a color.

To give an idea what can be done in the nations.csv file, here is a before and after for the diplomacy mode, showing parts of Germany, Russia, and Austria. Perhaps the contrast isn't enough in the modified version, but I haven't settled on exactly the colors I want - I just wanted it lighter.

Are you able to distinguish the control of areas using such contrast?

Well, like I said, I'm still adjusting the colors. But here you see that Russia is slightly brownish, Austria is slightly greenish. Germany is slightly grayish, but that hardly shows up at all.

And I can actually see the border.
