Pre-ordered, I obviouly need to install the originally downloaded application, then the activation patch? then 4.1, 4.1e?

I've tried that, even configures ok with my serial key, but the game won't start.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

No go....I keep getting "Microsoft has found a problem with World War One and has to close".
This from a clean install and the e patch.

Just to be sure.

Uninstall the game. Once done, search the game folder (is still in existence):

C:\Program Files\World War One

if it still exists and it contains files (DLLs??? :blink :) , REMOVE it manually.

Then proceed with the fresh Installation.

Yep, I've done that. No luck. The only thing in there after the uninstall
is some Log files in a Log folder, nothing else. Then the reinstall goes as
I've described.

If I may, I know how many hours you've put in on this game SINCE it's
release and I sincerely hope your not compromising your health in the
process. For you too spend time on one individual problem is, to me,
well.....impressive. Thank you. I love this game already and when
you have it running full bore like I know you will, it's going to be one
of the best of the year.

After searching a bit it seems that paul.dll is or are files related with games copy protection and security, alternatively cracked versions of these files are available to bypass the protection.

As Calvinus knows nothing about this file, must be that WW1 copy protection is not related with it

Conclusion: you must have a real mess there! ;)

I agree... :(

On my PC, for obvious reasons, I had to do HUNDREDs of uninstall and reinstall procedures... But I never corrupted the Vista registry so terribly that the game cannot run anymore... :(

So other tip: search something related to ww1 and paul.dll inside the registry of windows: Start > Run... > type "REGEDIT" ... and search "paul.dll"...
But this is a VERY delicate procedure, mainly if you have to remove some key from the registry... :sourcil:

Ok, after running every scan known to man, I try to re-install WWI.
And I noticed that one of the very first files installed is paul.dll ?!

Is it possible my original files have become corrupted??
If so, what do I do about it.
I DO have a legitimate, purchased copy of the game,
if anybody needs a serial number, order number or
whatever, I can provide it.

Any ideas? Phil? Calvinus? (no, let him sleep)
