Help! No "Pause" Key on Laptop

I'm running the game on a laptop with no "Pause" key. So I can't run the game at all. (Map looks good, though.)

Can you guys please remap the pause function to another key (like the spacebar or "P")? Otherwise, the game is unplayable on many laptops.

Thanks.

Problem solved: On my MacBook Pro (under Bootcamp), Fn + Esc = Pause.

Now if I can figure out how to replicate Insert and Delete. (A whole keyboard full of normal keys and they map everything to the weird keys. :wacko :)

Same issues on my MacPro running BootCamp. Adding on map buttons would be nice, as well as being able to map keys to our own preferences.

Yes I seem to get a problem with F-lock. I have to press this before pause works. Luckily I found out about this after having print screen problems in a post a few days ago!

Cheers, Chris

I am bumping this thread because my laptop, a Dell studio 17, does not have a pause key nor does it have a function key+other key combination. I was unable to find any fixes for this problem while using the forum's search engine, and without being able to reassign thishot key I am completely unable to play this game.

Can you contact the PC vendor/producer in order to get support? There should be some key combination...
Otherwise I have to build a WW1.exe version just for you! :D ;)

Dell Inspiron 1720 here.

Pause key is Fn+F12, are you sure this combo is not working?

Thank you for your response. When I had originally tried prior to the 1.05d patch, the use of the function key caused the game to go to a black screen and lock up. fn 12 does work as a pause key for me now in 1.05d and newer.

While it is all nice that I can now unpause the game it does seem (IMO) to be a massive oversight on part of the designers to bind a command necessary to game play to a key not found on the majority of laptops. It would have made a lot more sense to bind pause to something like 'space' or even 'P'.

I'm sorry, but I have seen the Pause key in all laptops... As the opposite, I was stuck when you reported no pause key is on yours.

Actually, many laptops don't have pause keys. Macs don't. And small footprint PCs with smaller keyboards don't.

That's why many games map the Pause button to "P" or the Spacebar.

It's not like this game is keyboard shortcut intensive. There are plenty of unused keys available.

No problem for me to map the pause with another key in addition to the current used one. ;)
Space bar is already used, P too (so I recall). Let's see what I can use instead...

I added two new shortcut keys:

F9 : pause game
F11 : make a screenshot

Do you like them?

Nice. In what folder will be saved the screenshots and in what format (jpeg)?

The screenshots (current version: created by the # key) are generated inside the game folder (commonly C:\Program Files\World War One), in BMP format (high quality).
