pbem feedback

Hi Calvinus,

Some pbem feedback for you and anyone else that may wish to play the game via pbem. I am still waiting for my pbem game to start so the following finding is from trying a pbem game solo.
When the host issues the first host.sav file to other players (I was playing a 2 player grand campaign) he has already drawn his event cards and the 'EventsDrawn' is set to Yes. When the other palyers load the host.sav file they do not get to pick their event cards because the game thinks they have already picked them.
This can be rectified by changing the 'EventsDrawn' setting to No either before sending the host.sav to other players or by the other players themselves.

Excellent catch RGA! Indeed I never realised this hole, and only the "physical" play-testing of the new host mode could let us to iron out this issue. I will work on it asap! :)

Could some kind soul post step-by-step instructions how to play PBEM? I've tried solo PBEM but so far it has been impossible, no matter what. The PBEM-manual doesn't help at all (I'm using 1.08Q). I would really appreciate your advice, thanks!

For clarification: I haven't been able to continue the game from the diplomatic phase...

And to be more exact, it's the first events phase including sending the ambassadors to different countries. There is no way that the CP side (side 1, or the host) can continue the game after Entente has reached that far.

Hey, finally got one step forward when renaming one .BAK-file to .ORD-file! It shouldn't change, and that is indeed the problem.

And then I'm stuck. Help me please!

Okeydokey, it turns out that I didn't read the PBEM-manual carefully enough. There are .PBM-files to work with. Is solo PBEM possible anymore?

...And the answer is yes. One has to manually swap the PBM-files (one for each side), which is quite cumbersome but doable.

Thanks for your help! :neener:

Hello, I don't understand what is the problem, sorry.
Do you have multiple .PBM files for the same game?
If so, this is the problem. You should have only one PBM file, yours one, that one generated by the game when the match was started. The PBM files are not to be shared with other players, as indicated in the PBEM Manual PDF, every player must keep the PBM file as personal.

Ahh ok, now I understand. You are trying to play a solo PBEM.
Indeed the PBEM engine was never designed to allow a solo-play, and now the newest PBM file feature makes it almost impossible, unless you swap the PBM files every time you change the player "seat". Sorry, but you have to swap the PBM files manually... :(

Glad you understood it. Yes, I would have liked to test historical plans against each other (with my superior intelligence, hehe) but swapping PBM-files manually is a bit too much. I guess hotseat mode would require too much work.

In any case, I'm really enjoying the game! Thank you!
