And the Portuguese Army is...

where exactly?

For the first time went after Portugal diplomatically and got her to declare war on the CP in 1917. So, went to the Portugal box expecting to find the expeditionary force that served on the Western Front and not only does it not exist in the Grand Campaign 2 (or 4 either) but Portugal received zero RP and so the unit cannot even be built during an interphase even with economic aid provided from another country.

A Portuguese 3-4-4 infantry exists in the units.csv and shows up in the 1918 scenario but cannot seemingly appear in the campaigns.

Tried inserting the following line in the GC-2 detachments.csv file but the unit does not show up when the campaign loads:

[color="Red"];POR_a;950017;Det - 17;DT_LandDetachment;POR;LDS_Static;;;;;PORTUGAL_BOX;"{POR_a_344;0;1;0}";;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0[/color]

Any suggestions on how to get the Portuguese army in Europe to show up in the campaigns and how provide even token RP's?

Figures that having spent several hours on this and subsequently posting the above in frustration, some inspiration happened and a fix follows if anybody wishes to see the mighty Portuguese Army appear in WW1G.

This only works if you have modified the Detachements.csv file as per my post above.

Open the Nations.csv file in the GrandCampaignTwo folder and save the original somewhere safe.

Find the line:

2030;POR;0;[IDS_POR];27;NE_Portuguese;PORTUGAL_BOX;20;PS_Allies;0;NPA_Pacifist;NWD_MovementDoctrine;GR_ConstitutionalMonarchy;[color="Red"]0[/color];7;0;0;;0;0;0;0;0;-;;-;1;"0;0;0";"0;1";;;"[color="red"]950019;950020[/color]";;;;;;;;"205;91;69";17;IMG_MAP_PORTUGUESES

Amend it to read:

2030;POR;0;[IDS_POR];27;NE_Portuguese;PORTUGAL_BOX;20;PS_Allies;0;NPA_Pacifist;NWD_MovementDoctrine;GR_ConstitutionalMonarchy;[color="darkgreen"]8[/color];7;0;0;;0;0;0;0;0;-;;-;1;"0;0;0";"0;1";;;"[color="DarkGreen"]950017;950018;950019[/color]";;;;;;;;"205;91;69";17;IMG_MAP_PORTUGUESES

Now reduced Portuguese corps will appear in the Angola and Portugal boxes as well as the Mozambique box and Portugal should receive eight (8) RP's.

Just to clairify, for this to work you also need to modify the scenario Detachments.csv file as per post #1 above.

WW1G is like an onion with layer upon co-dependent layer...

You might also consider adding a scenario turn rule for a Portuguese RP flow, in this case 2 RP per turn:

Hi!

I think that line needs to be fixed in the GC-2 detachments.csv file from DT_LandDetachment to DT_HeadQuarter, because then it turns out that the Portuguese army not have headquarters, and it can not be.

And also do a couple more fixes in short, I think the string should be changed as follows:

from

Also in the GC-2 armies.csv file does not have the Portuguese army, can anyone add to it, so I'm still just learning this, well, if Det-17 is converted to HQ POR-17, then you need to set some parameters (Coordination , Command, Movement, and the like), which are mandatory for all HQ of armies. And lastly in Units.csv need to change the value in the "Army Number" (2 column) for the Portuguese army from 0 to 1, since all the main army should have its own number, by the way it applies and to the Persian army. Such defects are possible and in other modes. Please check and correct it in the new patch. ;)

I think there's no real or urgent need to make Porugal supported by a HQ. The Portugues forces can be used normally as independent detachment. Otherwise you had also to update the Armies.csv file as well as Nations.

Also because I recall the Portuguese forces in Europe are just two units... a HQ for two units??? :neener:

No need. Historically Portugal field only a small corps (less than 3 divisions) on the Western Front and it was 100% under British control...

The main war effort of Portugal was in the colonies, mostly Mozambica (where the Germans gave them some hard times) :)

Okay, okay ... :D I just thought it was somehow wrong when the army has its headquarters, even if there will be only 1-2 units. After all, I'll create a headquarters in Afghanistan, but there will also be no more than 1-2 units. It was just in case. In adding, perhaps even possible to increase the number of troops in Portugal, but only for defend country, because I did not just began build the army for neutral countries ... Well, it can still leave, but in the future when I finish my work on modding, I think back to this and suggest a couple of options on this matter (but it's still a long way since, by my count I have finished my modding in best only in the summer of 2012). ;)

I never added a HQ for Portugal since as Calvinus and PhilThib noted, it makes no sense historically and would add nothing to game play in my opinion.
