Any Progress On Single Nation Play?

I know we can use the 4-player game and select one, but there seems to be a few oddities, still.
Playing the attached minors is just fine but I'd like to only play France/GB or Russia/Serbia, for instance, and not have to watch the AI play out it's other battles with my allies (for one thing).
This has been on a list somewhere for awhile and I was wondering if it's a possibility in the future. Can we have the 4-player game tweaked to accomodate single-player with 3 AI?
