Changing Game Settings Is A Terrible Pain

Unless I've completely missed something, changing the game settings has been driving me nuts.

I have to load into a scenario, change the settings to what I want, exit the scenario, then restart that same scenario. Not only once for the whole game but it looks like each individual scenario's settings are saved separately. So I've ended up doing this for each one. This wouldn't be so terrible, but the load times are immense. :cursing:

Is there not a way to adjust universal settings from the main menu or even by modifying a text file?

In theory it should work as "universal" setting, but there are some scenarios (Serbia) that have settings scripted inside the .scn file. So, when you load the that scenario(s) and quit the game, the scripted settings overwrite the old ones.

When you play only the grand campaign, it does not happen.

Yes, I had decided to play the small ones again and Serbia definitely made things crazy.

Still.. it's rather inconvenient with the exceptional load times. I'd like to see the in-game option menu available in the main menu or outside the game such as in the "configurator". Trying different option mixes has involved much loading and exiting vice playing.

Is there any way to make the 'Escape' key active and able to bring up the game settings menu in the main menu?

This doesn't directly answer to your problem, but to me it helps: see my thread in the mods sub-forum on 'startup options template.'

Thanks Gardner.

I was wondering if they had a relatively easy text file somewhere that could be changed. Though I'm not sure how much time would be saved. :mdr:

It's only useful if you would be restarting a scenario over and over, like I did the Serbia scenario. Must have played that 10 times figuring things out.
