Problem

I currently have the beta patch 1.08H installed.
I have attached a screen shot of the problem. The problem is I can't get out of the battle screen because the 'next battle' button isn't activated, even though the battle is over.

UAC off? Logged in as PC Admin?
Running in single-CPU mode if needed?

Here is another screenshot.
UAC: OFF
Admin: Yes.
single CPU: Not sure about that (I don't think that's the problem though).
The problem always seems to happen when I have 2 units in reserve which I CANNOT move into the rear or to the deployment area. I only have 1 unit which I CAN send to the first line. When that unit (see screenshot) is forced to retreat and becomes immobilized the battle result screen comes up. However, I am not allowed to continue because the immobilized unit which had retreated is still in the deployment area and the reserve units can't move. It's like the game has not registered that the battle has ended, and I can't actually move any of my units.

Have you tried to activate the Battle AI Advisor?

"Have you tried to activate the Battle AI Advisor?"
Yes, but it doesn't do anything. It's annoying when I have just gone through 5-6 battles then I can't proceed from the battle screen of this one battle, which I then have to shut the game down because there is no way I can actually continue. The game doesn't crash or freeze, it's just that the game doesn't seem to realise that the battle is finished.

It's a bit strange, I played hundreds of battles with the most recent patch and I never encountered this issue.
Can you post here a save where it happens most regularly?
Anyway I still believe the cause is external (antivirus or firewall that cause a de-sync in game engine during battles), as happened to other players in the past.
Thanks,
Calvinus.

I encountered the same type of battle again, but this time i activated the AI advisor at the START of the battle, not at the end like before. After the battle had automatically ended, and the battle result was the same as before (unit had retreated and was immobilized in the deployment area), the next battle button was active and I was able to continue!
I'm still not sure why it didn't let me continue when I played the battle manually, but the AI advisor option at the start of the battle seems to work, and I am really happy that I can now continue the game! And speaking as a historian, it's probably the best war simulation game I have ever played (along with other AGEOD games of course :cool

Agree. I've had that a few times where Alt-Tabbing out of the game and then back in fixes this kind of issue. Suddenly a window you couldn't see will appear.

There are some problems with the calculation of the battle.Yes ,ALT +TAB will bring the result of the battle ,then the game continues.

I'm still getting the same trouble despite:
- Single CPU
- UAC OFF
- Anti-Virus (disabled - avira)
I can't get through the military phase in October because of this problem! What's even more annoying is that it's random. Sometimes it does it on the first battle, sometimes the third, or even more annoying the very last ones!

If running on Vista or Win7, have you tried setting the run mode of WW1.exe to XP SP2 Compatibilty?

I've had this happen several times too in my actual game. In one instance, I had to restart the game for three times to get through to the end of the military phase. It did happen in different battles, however. IIRC, Alt-tab didn't work. I'm running the game under Vista32.

The game didn't even load when I did that, just a black screen.

when i had this same problem, getting stuck on battle screen, i had to uninstall my avast anti virus (disabling it didnt help) and replace it with AVG.
after i did that my problem went away.
maybe WW1 doesn't like avira either.

They made it special for you.

Not exactly.
The problem is that some antivirus (if not properly configured to consider WW1.EXE as a trusted application) detect the multi-threading operations done by the game (mostly RAM allocations/deallocations and I/O access to hard disk) as a threat, so they slow down the game or even put 1+ threads in freeze. I say 1+ in fact you think the game runs normally, but only 1+ thread of the game is freezed and the game does not process some operations (in fact you see the battle calculations locked). For some antivirus there's even no way to tell them that WW1 is not a threat! For example Norton Antivirus..... Some others, even if disabled, still continue working in background.... such as Panda and Avira... and so on...

I don't think the multi-threading operations are the main reasons for the slow down of the game. There are many multi-threading programs in the PC,if it is the reason of the slow down of the game, what about the other multi-threading programs?
Have you ever tried Kaspersky?

Multicore cpu will conflict.Actually ,Kaspersky is a strong anti virus. No need to try that. The weakest anti-virus will treat it.
