AI attack logic in trench warfare

After the AI spreads its forces out for the trench warfare mode in early 1915 why does the AI repeatedly (read 90% of the time) attack with 1 or 2 units at best? It's not accidently clashing in maneouvres for empty squares, its launching attacks with 1 or at best 2 units.

I can only assume that the AI isn't programed to gather forces and attempt some sort of concerted effort to take a province?

It would be useful to have this.

I noticed that too. Indeed it seems a point that needs to be improved for AI asap.

the same thing is happening to me. im playing the 1916 scenario as the cps and the brit somme offensive and the russian brusilov offensives were laughably small attacks by one corp at a time.

I already introduced some key refactorings in Naval Warfare for landings and invasions. Now my next task is to study an AI improvement for this stuff. ;)

Can you post here a zipped savegame that could allow me to quickly test the AI improvements I'm working on, please?

This would help me a lot to see if the AI now sends more corps. ;)

Thanks,
Calvinus.

Calvinus,

Have seen this AI activity often. I'm attaching a couple of prior saves that I think includes some of this behavior.

Perfect, thanks! I will start the testing as soon as possible.

Your save is impressive: Russia capitulated and become Communist, USA intervened the war, and we are in 1916! Germany redeployed all her forces on the West Front and US troops start embarking for France!

Good news! The latest AI improvements in 1.08G are giving nice results!

I see the Germans in your save planning and executing a Grand Offensive with a lot of troops in June 1916 against Saint Mihel and Val de Moselle! But also against Belfort, even though with a bit less forces. And last but not least a secondary offensive agains the Britons in Maubege.

Good to hear re: the 1.08G AI. Yeah, I'm into May 1917 now and havin' lots of fun w/ this game. The Germans are putting the pressure on me but have been able to hold them off so far...but am a little concerned w/ the French national morale level. One surprising thing has been the German navy has been beating up on my Brit navy. Some big navy battles w/ the Germans winning most of the time.

One question re: the Germans..when I played the CP side and Russia surrendered, I couldn't transfer the German armies from the east to west. Not sure why I couldn't do the transfer?

I recall there's a rule that forces you to guarantee a minimum garrisoning of the East Front for a given number of turns... that's historical indeed.

PeaceRules.xls:

RUS GAR 13 Minimum number of corps to be left garrisoning the new frontier (for the nations belonging to the winning side)

So 13 corps must be left...

ok thanks..I knew there had to be a rule somewhere but I'm a lazy manual reader :bonk:

The English navy are defeated by the Germans?
Actually ,the Germans are blockaded by the English navy.
The English navy is powerful in WW1.

Well, I'm not much of a naval tactician but the German navy has won about half of the larger naval battles through mid 1917. Both sides have lost beaucoup ships/squadrons.

By late 1917, The Brits seem to be winning most battles and successfully blockading I think due to German attrition.

IIRC the German navy, although outnumbered by the British navy in WW1, did have some qualitative advantages such as better armor, better fire control, etc.

The navy war seems to be interesting. In WWI the main war field is in the land.Even the air planes belong to the land force.Germany is famous for its U-boot.England has a elite BEF,which can be sent to nearly everywhere of the world.
