Events - AI playing benefits for it's enemy?

I keep seeing AI playing events that benefit it's enemies.

For instance, in my latest game I'm playing 4-man as Russia and I've seen some strange events being played especially by the CP. The latest one was Germany playing a tank bonus event that says it benefits Britain and France with +1 to research and a chance for +1 rating on their tanks.

At first I thought perhaps I was reading the message wrong but that one seemed unambiguous enough to be worried.

Can you take a look at this?

Thanks.

Edit: I'm also having a fit trying to figure out when I can play my event cards that I've been holding for 2 turns as the checkbox always says "conditions have not been met" no matter what I select. I think I'm ignorant of a rule somewhere on using them. An example right now - I have the card that makes either Russia, Turkey, or A-H suffer from troop desertion and I also have the encirclement card. Neither has let me play them in any phase with any country selected. When and how can I use these?

They'll ask you it has nothing surprising as these events are mandatory.

I did several tests already, finding no major issues. But I always tried in 2-players mode. Ok I will try with 4 players.

The big manual has a very detailed section where all events are explained. You will find there all conditions.

I keep forgetting the game is very alt-tab friendly so I should be doing that more often.

I’m probably being blind but I can’t find it. You someone have a page number for the event list? I can find it in the board game manual but not the (big) ne for the PC game.

From page 163 to page 196 of the big manual. Don't you find the manual? Or the pages?

I can find the manual. :) I printed it. Just re-read the pages you refereed to. They include a very useful detailed description of diplomacy and political actions but only a short section on events and certainly no list of all possible events with perquisites listed. Perhaps I’m reading an old version? Could someone post a link to the version that has event descriptions?

I checked the big manual installed with the Gold edition. It's the very latest version, that includes the full section of game events.

Right, thanks. Found it. That is not that manual that can be downloaded from the board – hence the confusion. You might want to update the version downloadable in the sticky thread.

Must admit it is confusing.

Trying the GC for the first time as Russia, I saw Germany play the "Tank Armor" Event giving France and Britain bonuses on their research on tank technology.

I might be wrong but I think its only the event text which is wrong there, and the actual bonus applies to Germany.

Fastsnake may have hit on something about scripted events.

Perhaps it happens in most scenarios but doesn't necessarily have an 'owner'. In that case, maybe it just takes whichever country has the first move initiative and runs all the scripted events under it's name?

Also - I'd think the tank bonus should go to the UK like it currently does since they were the first to cook 'em up.

thats an other thing regarding public events. These are drawn by one of the countries, but are triggered immediately, hence the "germany played" and such messages

Hence why it would be cool if, ideally, a sentence would state that the said country was "forced" to play the following event. That would clarify everything.

But only AI may get forced? Because I've never been forced to play anything. When I got a Germany bonus event with France, I simply delete it without playing it.

You do get strike or rebellion events, right? Those are public events, "forced" if you like, and IIRC if it hits your enemy, then it was drawn by you (or vice versa, getting a bit sleepy here).

An excellent suggestion. And it seems simple, no ?

I finally spotted this tanks bonus event: Estienne / JFC Fuller.
And it happens only in 4-players mode, I saw Germany playing it even if it benefits FRA/ENG!
Now I have do debug AI...

Also, as Russia I got an starting event card that makes the Entente declare war on Belgium (Entente declares war on Belgium, page 181).

This is a point already discussed for the old version of WW1.
This event can be considered useful also for the Allies, in case they want to move through Belgium to outflank the Germans and they don't have the "Right of Passage" event...
It's surely a stupid play, but it can have some sense.
Now you got Russia playing it. Your ally is AI driven, in fact. This is a typical ugly side effect of playing standalone the 4-player campaign, which was designed for Multiplayer.

The new version 1.08D is now available:
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=17722

Unfortunately, there's yet no fix in 1.08D for the points discussed here.
In fact, I tried to debug this stuff, but the fix proved to be more cumberstome than expected. The core mechanics of the WW1 AI engine bring sometimes to really unpredictable behaviours:
