Can't play events...

I don't seem to be able to play the event 'Entente declares war on Belgium'. I took Germany's non-attack on Belgium war plan. So Belgium is neutral. So what the heck, what conditions are not met? I'm in the 1914 pre dip phase? This is a new game with latest patch. So is this a bug or is there something I'm missing.

Somebody please shed some light..

Thanks.

I think in another thread (somewhere down the front page) it was mentioned that only Entente can play the event (i.e. CP having it only prevents Entente from playing it).

Well... I believe the event is scripted wrongly...

Herewith the changes (EV_SECRET.inc file) I'm going to test:

;
; Event SEC_015 - Entente declares war on Belgium
;
BeginEvent

Id=9060
Tag=SEC_015

...

; Conditions
BeginCondition
Type=EC_CheckBelligerantNation
Parameters=ENG,1,PS_CentralPowers
EndCondition
BeginCondition
Type=EC_CheckBelligerantNation
Parameters=BEL,0
EndCondition

CoditionsFormula=({1} AND {2})

...

TargetNations=GER

The texts in bold highlight the changes.

In such a way this event should work if played by CP, and in favor of CP of course.

The two conditions are:
1) Great Britain at war against the CP
2) Belgium neutral

The effect:
Germany may play the event on behalf of CP (if France or Britain does it's a suicide!!! :mdr :) and Belgium enters the war on the side of CP.

Hm, if this is the way that event should work, I do not like it. :P

You're joking right? I don't think it would make sense for the event to be played by Entente. If so, how about putting in an event where the US declares war on Entente an allow France and Britain to play it! :mdr:

I hope all events are fixed by Friday. Would be a weekend for me to start a new game. Otherwise, I wait.

I personally agree with abululian.

The number of events is very huge, and most of them are to be investigated deeply.

For sure, I will check and fix all those events you will report as probably wrong, as I did for this one. ;)

Calvinus (Santa Claus?),

I know you will do your best. Maybe X-mas will come early for me! :)

The event only makes sense if played by the Central Powers – the entente can always decleare war on Belgium in the diplomacy phase. No event needed.

I am not sure this was the case in the boardgame, however. My memories are blurry though.

I just don't like the idea of the other side dictating when to put yourself in a miserable situation. Even a politically adventureous Entente declaration of war on Belgium would see some preparations, whereas in this case, the Centrals player can mass on Belgian border, play the event, and rape France.

I will agree with Tamas that it seems to be a harsh event against the Entente. But, as it stands only really makes sense for CP to play. Otherwise, it shouldn't be in the game. I think an argument could be made for that, unless their exists some equally harsh events the Entente can play on the CP. :love:

So let's wait for Philippe's judgement! :gardavou:

But please within thursday! :siffle:

I would keep as it is with strict conditions and warplans AND may be a one-turn delay in the implementation... e.g. CPs play it on France in September 14, then it would not be effective before November... my 2 cents

An alternative / complement would be triggering another event in response where France could back done at some cost in NW, but unknown to the German player...so he would be kept wondering whether the French will do it or not... :cool:

I have to agree with Tamas. Unless the Entente can counter that event in at least half the cases it's way unhinging and unfair to the Allies. I don't feel very comfortable CP being able to dictate such a major thing on the enemy.

Why Philippe's solutions are so terribly complex to be developed??? :p leure:

Make it simple then ;) ... remove the event for the time being :D

Sorry I brought up the post for the event as I wanted to try this event as CP. Now you guys are trying to get rid of it. :blink:

How about simply making it conditional on the Cp having chosen the all-out attack on Russia war plan and no French hexes being German controlled?

The text is all about the Germans using Belgium as a shield to hind behind and the French bungling their diplomatic approach to Belgium for access.

Would only be plausible if the Germans are not attacking France and the French needs to aid Russia

The event is about France (and UK) DoWing Belgium, which would not happen out of a whim, on a perfect timing for Germany, like the event would cause.

IIRC, in the boardgame you could not just declare war on Belgium as Entente, hence this event. I could be wrong of course, its been a while.

We have an excellent diplomacy system, we don't need events to replace it. :)

Philippe and I agreed to keep the event "Entente declares war on Belgium", but making it very difficult to happen!

A die roll of 5+ will be needed in order to have this event drawn from the deck! :D
