Naval transport???

Sorry if this has been asked but I can't find it in the manual. How do you transport by Sea-a ground unit from the USA box. Ive tried the drag and drop from the box to the green area around the globe in England. I understand the weather must be sunny. :confused: Also I highlighted the unit and hit the trans button but still no movemnet later.

The green area of the globe is just "decorative", so you have to drag & drop the stack over a "real" area of England (btw, why not France? :blink :) . I suggest you use the min zoom level (enlarge the map view the most you can), as this will help you when dragging over such large distances (the same applies for long range naval movements). ;)

Naval transport button is to be clicked before dragging of course. Also, if this stack is going to pass enemy controlled sea zones, I suggest you to send there a navy with "Patrol" mission...

V1.04c: Playing Grand campaign up to Summer 1916 as Entente. And managed to get USA declare war on Central powers some months ago. Got the message about moral boost by every US Corps in France.

According to the naval transport icon on the top bar USA has 0 naval transport capacity. Therefore I didn't even try to move US troops to France.

What about moving British (and US) GHQ to France? It seems to be impossible. (clicking Naval transport and then drag and drop GHQ to a French harbour with British Channel squadron on patrol. And : Yeah. I figuered out, that it's impossible in bad weather turns...).

If Western GHQs ar not transportable by sea then how the reserve units they contain are handled?

I remember there was a boardgame rule that prevented the British GHQ to be moved before... :confused: But I guess this rule has not been ported to the PC game.

My game is now into nov-dec 1916. So if I am transporting american units from the american box to France/England it would seem I can't get them their until around sometime in 1917, due too weather. Is that correct? I ask this since they can only ship with sunny weather. Is this possiable? :confused: My "boys" are ready to get "overthere". :D

I need to know because I drew the "Allies can declare war on Belgium" and I am thinking about it. I have a stalemate on the western front. It would help alot. if I try this move if I have the Americans there to work with the Brits.

By the way Germany did not move thru Belgium but did attack Switzerland and Italy declared on the Allies. What do you guys think. Good move? Bad move? :confused:

A related issue about moving fleets across the globe : how to make the Brit Indian fleet get back to England ? Dragged and dropped it all over the map, no luck, dropped out .. :bonk:

More generally moving "overseas" fleet is painful with the off map boxes spread by several "meters" of map ... or I completely missed how it's supposed to be managed :confused:

Temporary trick: move them to North Atlantic...once there, move them to the Atlantic section on the map west of France...
Beware fleets have 5 MP max and each big "sea" on the globe uses 1 MP...

Same problem with Japan. They have enough units to be quite useful taking Germany's pacific possessions but no naval transport. Is there any way to use their troops overseas? If not is there any reason to bother getting them into the allies? Historically the Japanese did grap Germany's chinese holdings.

Also what does the "Convoy" naval mission do? Can I use naval sqaudrons as transports or does this just mke them escort tranport missions?

Redeployment of Japanese troops on German colonies (Qin Tao) should be scripted by event. But I guess you are right, also minor nations should have a sea transport capacity... ;)

The "convoy" mission is used to escort merchant shippings. All DD squadrons inside the fleets so committed are then used to protect Britain from the German U-Boots! ;)

I also am playing as the Allies and have reached Jan - Feb 1917 with the US in war :thumbsup: . As has been noted previously, the Yanks are stuck 'over here' as they do not have any naval transport. It also appears that they can not be shipped to France using the Strategic Redeployment either. Too bad.

Mmmm... just one doubt... what is the current naval transport capacity of USA? Zero? If not-zero maybe you are trying to ship a number of corps that is larger that the capacity? ;)

The current transport capacity for the USA is zero.

In a previous game where I had Japan as an ally, its transport capacity was also zero.

So what should the U.S. transport number be? I am now in may 1917 and waiting on good weather to move them. I hope I'll be able to when the weather clears. ;)

Correction: I am now in June 1917. The weather is sunny. But the USA transport allowance is 0(-3). So is that correct?

I am afraid that with the USA transport allowance at 0, the Doughboys will be staying 'Over Here' until the next patch. I did try the strategic deployment available each Jan-Feb turn, but that did not work either.

July it went too 9(0). Dragged a naval unit and a ground after pushing the naval trans button. The black box came up for both. I set the final move for the Inf corps(us) in a port in France but they did not move(during military phase). So either I am still doing something wrong or you are correct. I wish I knew for sure!

I don't doubt what you tell me :)

Ahhh...if you receive a 9 for US naval transport, there is no reason (apart from good weather) why you can not transfer US troops to France. What does the red error message (lower left hand side)say when you attempt to move to France?

Didn't notice what the red said. By the the way, I ment to say "naval unit and a ground unit"-I should proof read what I send. :( :w00t:

I will run the Aug turn and see what it says if bad weather does not set in.

Fixed, there were two bugs in one:

1) top frame display wrong : shown the absolute sea transport capacity, wrongly calculated;
2) when planning the movement, the constraint was not calculated on the number of corps, but of units (so including artillery, support units, etc.).

Fixed with the new patch.
